Would definitely recommend going up to the tower for the view. The cloisters and cathedral are also beautiful and pleasant- particularly in the off season when it's not busy.
Visited on a lovely clear winter dayThe main feature I noticed was that we could visit every part of the cathedral and roam at our own pace. Whilst it is a climb to get up to the top it is well worth it. I can't think of any other similar building that allows you to walk on the roof of the cathedral!,Views are amazing and there are a few architectural highlights
We were expecting a bright, highly decorated interior. This cathedral is quite dull and austere. Only worth a quick look.
We just looked at it from the outside, had no wish to go inside, although you can climb on the roof, maybe there is a nice view.
Got access to the top and to the cathedral itself. This cathedral has a nice view from the rooftop, where you can see Évora and its surroundings.
Be sure you climb to the tower to the roof. Amazing views and photo ops. The church is interesting but the best part is the bell tower.
The Cathedral of Evora is impressive in its architecture and state of good preservation. The hike up the tower is well worth the effort, the view form the top is spectacular
The cathedral has some beautiful art - most notable the statue of a pregnant Virgin Mary. Spend time in the cloisters and climb to the rooftop for beautiful views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Make sure you check the opening hours, as the church was closed between 12:00 - 2:00 when we were in Evora.
The most interesting feature of this cathedral is the unique statue of a pregnant Virgin Mary. Many pregnant women, women hoping to conceive a child and women praying for grandchildren come here to pray to the Virgin Mary.
Went by bus from Lisbon. Cathedral closed for renovations. Chapel of bones closed for siesta. We had to leave before the chapel reopened. Remainder of the town not worthy of the 20 euro bus ticket.
Unfortunately, the staff is not very friendly. You can climb the stairs and walk on the rooftop of this cathedral and have a wonderful view of Evora. The cathedral itself is rather dark, but it's worth the visit.
I visited Evora at the end of my three weeks in Portugal. To be honest, I was getting a bit "cathedraled out." But the cathedral in Evora was still well worth a visit. Really beautiful. I'm glad I paid the extra fee to be able to visit the cloister. I'm a real sucker for cloisters and love to see them in my travels. The cloister in Evora is lovely. My only complaint is that they installed a huge, ugly soft drink machine right at the entrance to the cloister. It's completely out of place, in the way and ruins the effect on entering the cloister. Who puts a soft drink machine in a cathedral's cloister? I include a photograph.
This was an amazing place to see. The pipe organ alone was worth the visit- it is gigantic. There is so much ancient art in so many different media- Stone and wood carvings, paintings, ornate gold adornments. Take the tour given by the village tourism bureau- it was well worth the meager cost, and the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She added mightily to our understanding of what we were seeing, and took us to all of the fantastic sights in this beautiful walled Medieval City.
A beautiful gothic cathedral in the walled city of Evora. For a few Euros, you can climb to the roof for magnificent views of the town then wander through the church & cloisters.
