El Cid is a hero of turbulent reconquista times. It's interesting that he was a mercenary and during his life served for many rulers. However he is best known for his war against Almoravids and conquest of Valencia. His body is buried in the Burgos cathedral and the city of Burgos commemorated him in way of giving his name to one of the squares and putting his statue in the center. More statues of other historical figures are located on nearby bridge.

Enjoy history as you walk to nearby restaurants or hotel. The river walk is around the corner and it's a nice stroll to get your bearings.

Gloriuos statue, full of movement , one of many in Burgos, situated in a beautiful plaza just next to the bridge Puenta de San Pablo which has stunning statues on each side.El-Cid (1048-1099 ) was of Castillian nobiltity and has many legends attributed to his deeds. He is mentioned / features in many places in Burgos. For example in the cathedral, under the dome, there is is a floor stone marking his (and his Mrs) grave. The is an El-Cid route one can follow in Burgos, just ask for the map at the tourist office.It is well worth having a walk around the old city's area to see all the buildings and statues of beautiful Burgos. The beautiful statue from El Cid is near the bridge where several statues from important Spanish heroes are displayed. It has a beautiful view from the river, very intimate and near the cathedral. It was a pleasure to visit the whole area.

You can tell that the city has paid attention to this square and really try to make it lovely- the colors of the buildings in this square are lovely and give such a warmth and friendly atmosphere for you to sit an enjoy a coffee in one of the cafes, a delicious pastry in one of the patisseries or do a bit of shopping. It was a bit cold for us in Feb, but was still nice to walk around.

Marcus Aurelius it is not! As such statues go, it is representative of its period, but not ground-breaking. I liked it and it reminded me of the 1961 movie with Charlton Heston.

You cannot miss this statue if you take a walk along the river in Burgos. It dominates a square in front of the Theatre and points the way across the bridge with his sword.We wondered why the square is called 'Mio Cid' (My Cid?)

O melhor de Burgos é a catedral, portão de Santa Maria e o comércio local que tem ótimos preços, mas se sobrar tempo, dê uma olhada na estátua de el cid, herói na cidade. Fica perto da bonita casa del cordon, algumas quadras acima da catedral.

A praça fica na rota para quem curte explorar o centro histórico a pé. Tem um conjunto de prédios de estilos e tamanhos variados, o que não lhe confere o mesmo charme de outras praças simétricas e harmônicas da Espanha, mas a bela estátua equestre de El Cid vale a visita.

Es la plaza donde esta la estatua del cid campeador , le homenajean , vale la pena visitarla despues de callejear por la ciudad.

Это самый центр города – недалеко и Пласа Майор, и до кафедрального собора вряд ли больше 400 метров. Очень симпатичная площадь. В каком-то смысле аналог Россиу в Лиссабоне – так же доминантами являются разнесенные в разные стороны по одной оси театр и памятник. Но в Бургосе театр своим основным фасадом выходит на площадь сбоку, а памятник – естественно, главному герою и гражданину города – Эль Сиду – находится не напротив, а в стороне слева, не создавая той протяженной перспективы, как изначально и намеренно сделали в португальской столице. И оттого она не оставляет такого же парадно-официального впечатления, а выглядит гораздо более уютной и даже домашней. Может быть, оттого, что место железнодорожного вокзала на Россиу здесь занимает мост Сан Пабло?Впрочем, памятник Эль Сиду достаточно монументален – он из бронзы и имеет около 4 метров в высоту. Ни дать ни взять – наш Юрий Долгорукий. Герой пришпоривает коня и обнаженным мечом указывает - отсель грозить мы будем мавру. Но опять же – не в развитие перспективы, а так или иначе перпендикулярно ей, ломая неуместные официоз и воинственность.

É uma praça movimentada cruzando avenidas, moderna no centro de Burgos, mal se consegue tirar fotos e só ficou famosa por causa do herói espanhol.

Un sitio muy hermoso. La estatua del Mío Cid Campeador es de las mejores atracciones de la provincia de Burgos. Ideal para unas buenas tomas fotográficas.
