This superb great gate which leads into the Plaza in front of the equally wonderful Cathedral is part of the original 14th century city wall .

... pilgrims of Camino de Santiago went through the bridge and Arcos de Santa Maria. Well, actually it was one of dozen medieval city gates but such thinking is likely to be predominant among visitors. Imposing entrance to the city followed by a sight of huge cathedral is still impressive. Built of white limestone, contains some frescoes on its vaulted arch and small turrets on top. Definetely worth a look.

Very nice arcos near the Plaza Mayor. The arcos of the 14th century was renovated in the 16th century because of the visit of Charles V.

At the crossing of Puente de Santa Maria stands this large, ornate gateway. This is situated in the old city quarter of Burgos. Built to commemorate the noble citizens of the city, it has their statues above the archway.

Very nice to get through and admire. There are a few fresco paintings on the arch.It's a way to get to the Plaza Mayor.

Approached from the Santa Maria bridge over the River Arlanzon, the 16th C Arch, which has been restored, leads into the historical part of Burgos. The arch is decorated with statues of distinguished figures and certain rooms in the arch are open to the public.

This is the gate through which you enter the city Square with the cathedral is a magnificent backdrop. On the right side of the gate is a door which allows you access to a museum above the gate. The museum is two floors and is well worth a visit. From the second floor of the museum you can access a door and very narrow staircase which takes you out onto the wall itself which gives you a magnificent view of the new city and the bridge.

Burgos is a lovely small city with a medieval core well preserved and still active. There just before Christmas, we found the old plaza behind the old gate filled with people and activities ranging from the pious to the mercantile and slightly bizarre - a great continuum of how life must always have been there. The Cathedral is beautiful and the small museum built into the space above the arch also fascinating.

Beautiful gate showing the power and history of Burgos. Like the musicians playing under the gate. Bridge leading up to gate gives the gate status.

This was a fabulous lunch stop for us on the way to Seville. We struggled up the steep hills to be rewarded by an historic, attractive town. A must see. Try to spend longer than a couple of hours here, theres so much to explore. Use the recessed doorways to get off the road when cars come along!!

La mas relevante de las antiguas puertas en la muralla que rodeaba la ciudad, situada al final del puente de su mismo nombre, sobre el río Arlanzón. Está construida en piedra caliza que le confiere su coloración y al atravesarla se accede a la plaza donde se sitúa la inigualable Catedral. La construcción asemeja los antiguos arcos triunfales romanos, con hornacinas donde se sitúan esculturas de personajes históricos, todo culminado por almenas t torres

Majestuosa entrada al pueblo de Burgos en la edad media. En la cual ahora se puede visitar x dentro de forma gratuita. En su interior se exponen cuadros, me imagino que sera un espacio dedicado a sala de exposiciones. No OS olvidéis si subís a arriba de entrar en un cuarto a la izquierda en la cual dentro hay una puerta pequeña por la que se accede a un balcón exterior con vistas...

Por aqui se dava o acesso principal à centenária cidade de Burgos. O portão virou uma espécie de arco de triunfo para celebrar conquistas imperiais. É um dos lugares mais emblemáticos de Burgos, impregnado de história e beleza.
