This place comes outstanding wth the city of Girona, Its tall ceiling height is magnifiecient. Do have a look at the treasury museum with rare stuff. Small shop at the exit is also nice. Renovation work at Altar is going on, but a must if your visit. Minimal entrance fee is there.
Beautiful cathedral in the center of Girona with a nice walking path, gardens, interesting architecture, artifacts and great views of the city. Walk out the back to the path for a spectacular sunset.
Situated in the old town which is a maze of narrow alleys with very interesting houses and flats.the cathedral is very well situated the facade is most impressive as is the interior.well worth a.visit
Barcelona is not the only city to see in Cataluña.Go a bit up and you will see Girona. It's a small city, old, full of story as you walk in.Amazing views, from the walls and sunny.Good restaurants, good bars to out at night. Not on sunday and monday...but good and cosy places to go.Close to costa brava and has also a good variety of hotels. Its worth it to go and spend at least two days on the city. It's not a tiring city, easy to see and learn.Best time to go,maybe May where you have the flower festival. All the city is fully decorated with beautifull arts made with flowers.Dont lose it!
This place is really beautiful outside and in, i was surprised by the charge though, the architecture is incredible. you walk down this narrow little streets and then round a corner there is this place staring down at you, from the top of its steps, rather humbling
Lovely building. Well maintained. Well worth a visit. Cobbled road not suitable for wheelchair access.
I didn't go inside but from walking around it is beautiful. Loads of people where around. Beautiful detail. When I next go back I'm going in.
The outside in itself is stunning and a great photo opportunity at the bottom of the stairs. We found it interesting looking at the sculptures with their large hands. We paid 7€ each to go inside. There is also artworks on display to the side of the entrance with some beautiful tapestries. The inside is lovely too.
We visited Girona from Barcelona as excursion. We needed 1h by car. There are old small alleys, stairs, church. This church has special tapestry which is very artistic for me. We stayed half day to walk around this old town. then we visited small village around Girona. As the comparison with Barcelona, visitor is not so much, so we could feel easy for sightseeing.
Also go inside to see the cathedral and the inside court, you have to pay for it but it is worth the expenditure.
This cathedral has the widest nave in Christendom. The shear size of the arched space is awe inspiring. There are many additions to the cathedral through the centuries, but the heart of the church is very cohesive and I was glad we stopped to see it.
The Cathedral was also a art museum of sorts. In Spain every cathedral is unique because of the amount of religious art.
Adult price is 7eu and student price is 5eu. This includes an audio-guide telling the history of the cathedral and some stories about the saints it is dedicated to.
I always visit the cathedrals in cities visited as each one has a history and a uniqueness. Girona no exception. The cloisters were also good but star .attraction was the museum attached to the Cathedral. Beautifully displayed items, paintings and church treasures, but importantly the Creation Taperstry. A beautiful treasure and a privilege to have seen it.
The old Cathedral overlooks the city, offering a majestic overview of Girona from the plaza of the Cathedral.
