地势很高,应该算是 一个 fortress吧,用来防御入侵什么的,下面还有一个教堂。去的时候正在修缮所以有点小遗憾啊,不过还是很好看的

The Citadel in Victoria the capital of Gozo is an impressive sight - from a distance only. It is undergoing a very large amount of upgrading work to form a new entrance. The contractors don't seem to have heard of any sort of Health & Safety measures in Gozo - no hard hats, no harnesses for the workers, etc. The whole area is filthy so if you're going make sure you wear old clothes and sensible shoes. The walk up from the city is fairly steep and even the square at the bottom of the road is undergoing a lot of work with dirty lorries reversing everywhere. On the walk up towards the Citadel the situation is even worse with dumper trucks being reversed everywhere without warning and crane buckets swinging over the heads of visitors. Once inside the Citadel the situation is better but by no means perfect. The flagstones are very uneven and some have been dug up and left elsewhere while pipework is being installed. This is not a visit for the fainthearted or the mobility challenged. Many of the steps are downright dangerous and have no handrails. Notwithstanding all the above, the 360 degree vista from the top is fantastic

Wonderful 360-degree view around the Gozo. Impressive fortification structures, some interesting museums inside. Thus prices for Prison museum and others could be cheaper...

When we visited the old town there was builders everywhere, the place is getting a new entrance and cobble stones, it didn't look tidy but what can you expect in a building site. The view from the top excellent. We didn't enter the church as we had our quoto of churches for the day. There is a few craft shop inside the walled town.

Amazing citadel atop very typical Gozitan limestone plateau with views over Rabat (Victoria). Walk the ramparts and visit the museums but be aware before your visit it is downright dangerous ATM because of huge, chaotic restorations funded by the EU. Don't take young kids. Wheelchairs, forget about it.

Impossible to visit at the moment without getting dusty and an ear bashing from the enormous amount of restoration work. Cathedral itself not that interesting. Very quirky cathedral museum. Museum of Folklore and Archeological museum both quite interesting.

The whole image was clouded because of the construction going on. A bit disappointing. The climb was fun though, view from the top pretty good. Didnt head into the museums, so can't offer my opinion on them though!

A perfect place for the photographers, history lovers and anyone who treasures a quiet stroll with a difference around an old fortified city.Be warned that it is currently undergoing major renovations which should be finished by summer hopefully.

We visited the citadel and was impressed with the architecture and amazing views. Fantastic little museums inside the complex. But a big minus was the building work. It was noisey, dusty and was causing mayhem in the surrounding areas.

It`s been months since roadworks leading to it-Tokk and access to the Citadel have been left unfinished. The detour through Triq l-Imghallem still does not take you up to the Citadel since the final part has been rendered one way due to the construction works going on and on at the entrance of the Citadel. So fellow travellers, brace up and walk it all the way up. The place is worth a visit with its landmarks, views and history. Hopefully such long ongoing works will end one day!

Although there is major restoration work in progress we still had a fantastic view from the top of the Citadel. A shame many of the museum's were shut. Would like to see what transpires once the work is completed. We went on a Sunday and it was very quiet.

We really wouldn't bother visiting the Citadel at the moment, there are major renovation works being undertaken so the areas which are open are muddy and busy with digger trucks. The old prison was worth a visit but the attendant on the door needs a lesson in politeness and a smile would have been welcome unlike the attendant at the Silos, he was very friendly and helpful. We will visit again sometime when the renovation is completed.

Although this area was under renovation it was still well worth the walk up if only to see the amazing views from the top. We stopped off for a really lovely lunch on a rooftop terrace, had a look in a lace shop but the jewellry shop was unfortunately shut.

We spent days driving around Gozo, through Victoria seeing the Citadel high above, imposing, solid and watchful as it has stood for thousands of years over the island. It's amazing that this building has stood the test of time and is now being restored. On approach from independence square it's shape looms still holding secrets behind those walls. As you walk up the ramp and around into the archway that housed the gates, the steps of the Cathedral appear, this is as impressive as the approach to the Citadel itself. We walked around the battlements with cannons arcing across the landscape and looked down at huge ramparts below. The stone staircases around the Citadel are woren from footsteps across the ages, provoking thoughts about the lives that have passed through these walls and what they've seen. This is an special place. Parts of the inner buildings are still in need of repair and others are restored, some into shops, a restaurant and no doubt there we'll be other businesses that will take up spaces to help fund the maintenance to the Citadel. This is a Malta Heritage site and like you'd expect there's information points to inform visitors of the historical uses of these buildings. In particular they are three magnificent reservoirs in the walls of the Citadel that if you can manage the humidity and claustrophobic feel of tunnels that connect them, you can admire where the water was stored to support life within the citadel. A critical part of the infrastructure that a visitor might overlook as the ramparts, cannon and landscape views are more prominently visible on arrival. The Citadel is a great attraction from the time you arrive in Gozo but still under restoration as cranes and other heavy machines moving stone and concrete blocks about at the main entrance. However it remains open to visitors and hopefully the building will be fully restored to provide even more enjoyable experience for visitors.

A very pretty citadel, a pleasant walk, great views of the island. Definitely visit the Citadel jewelry store, I regret I did not buy more
