I always thought Biscotti was hard enough to drive a nail. The Monks do it right! Soft in texture with Almonds, Pecans, and other nuts. Blueberries, Cranberries and other fruit make it hard to not grab with a cup of coffee. We will be buying more and giving it as gifts. Oh yeah, on a side note the Monastery is a good place to sit and spend time w/God.
If you're already on Highway 212 near the monastery it might be worth stopping in, but it wasn't really worth it to go out of our way to visit this spot. The chapel is pretty but a little spartan, and the monk we saw was not friendly. The museum was just a few plaques describing history on the wall, and the monk there was very unfriendly. The gift shop is nice and worth a stop if you like shopping for trinkets and nice goodies from around the world. The nature here is not really that pretty, though it's ok. It wasn't really what I expected. The whole complex is very modern and spartan, not like visiting cathedrals in Europe. Also what religion is this? We couldn't figure it out. Not warm and fuzzy.
I find myself taking the drive to Conyers more and more to visit this wonderful place! Today's visit was for picking up some last minute gifts at the Gift shop. Honey, best biscotti you will ever eat (and I'm a NY Italian saying this!), fudge just to name a few food items; and then there's the Christian gifts and books! Not your style, ere are soaps and lotions, and even some cloths and Jewlery! Do visit the Monastic Heritage Center, and then go up the road for the Chapel. A good peaceful place to rest in a world of utter chaos!
Although I have previously enjoyed community events (like the Atlanta Boy's Choir Christmas Program) at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, two rather recent additions have enhanced the property and made it an even more desirable destination experience.Specifically, the relatively new Visitor's Center, with excellent food, beautiful gifts, and yummy home-made goodies, has given visitors a place to eat, a place to shop, and a place to "grab a little air conditioning and a clean comfort stop" while hiking the path. The path, a multi-purpose paved path of more than thirty miles, now connects the Monastery with Panola Mountain State Park, Davidson-Arabia Mountain, Stone Crest Mall in Lithonia, and Stone Mountain.Get a little exercise, grab a bite, and renew your spirit with a fun, pleasant, and peaceful visit to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit!
I love spending time here. The church is breathtaking in its simplicity. Walking the stations of the cross around the lake always calms and restores my soul. The path is truly a blessing to our community. Where else can you enjoy miles of paved biking through peaceful woods?
Great place to go by yourself, with family or friends. If you live in the Conyers/Covington area this is a great place to take your company visiting you. It has a beautiful bonsai garden and flower shop. Their gift shop has some real neat stuff, great ideas for Christmas gifts. While you shop around get some coffee and maybe a soft energy/granola bar.Watch the video, it provides you with a lot of history about this place and the daily lives of the monks. Walk through the museum and the barn to learn some more about the monks. If you get lucky one of the monks may greet you and answer any questions you may have. The cathedral is very peaceful. Pay attention to the stained glass windows. It creates a beautiful lit up view. Don't forget to go to the retreat area, there's a little lake in the rear, lots of geese there. This is a great spot for pictures. Then walk back to the great big opening in front of the cathedral, walk down the rows of magnificent magnolias. Great spot for a picture. If you have more time, you can catch the walking trail, it starts from the monastery, it's about 5 miles round trip. There is no entrance fee, but be kind enough to donate a few dollars when you enter the museum.
This is a go to place for some quiet time to reflect or to just walk around and enjoy the grounds. No trip is complete without visiting the gift shop. Delicious home - made items and gifts to choose from. I saw the Atlanta Boys Choir here couple years back and it was wonderful and breathtaking. The chapel is beautiful!!!!Also nice place on a pretty day to bring lunch and go down by the lake and feed the ducks.
The Monestary of the Holy Spirit is so lovely! And the conversations I have with Brother Thomas in the Museum are unforgettable. A fantastic place to visit. Serene and well manicured.
Thus is such a peaceful place. Take a walk. Grab a snack in the cafe, shop a little, visit the chapel, or tour the bonsai garden. There plenty of beauty and a in pec change from my regular pace of life.
Amazing visit. Visited before starting the Rockdale Trail! Awesome geocaching here! Visit the store and take a walk around the lake! Gem in the hustle!
