Not maintained very well but still beautiful and interesting. Grass was very high, didn't look like anyone had been there for a very long time.
This is not Disneyland, where everyone holds your hand. It is a self guided stroll through a clearing in the Oconee National Forest with the subtle and obvious story of the extinct mill village, now in ruins. It is a grassy woodland setting, with one story board about the important Georgians that followed the Native Americans to the shoals. Thirteen miles north on HWY15, Right on Macedonia rd left on gravel FS1234 rd.. Friends of Scull Shoals hosts heritage festivals semi annually. www.scullshoals.org for info RES Old Oconee.com
Scull Shoals Historical Area is located north of Greensboro at the end of a three mile gravel road. There are some ruins, trails, and picnic areas. However, the site needs much work. The trails appeared to be overgrown with weeds as was much of the site. Some of the information posts were devoid of information making it difficult to understand the site. The area has great potential,it's too bad it can't be better maintained.
