My husband and I visited the Burnt Hickory Brewery for their January tasting/tour and thoroughly enjoyed it! We paid $10 each to get a pint glass and 5 tickets. We could have chosen the $15 option - a beer goblet and 8 tickets. Each ticket gets you about a half a glass of beer. The quality of the beer was excellent!!! They had 4 varieties available all during the tour (12-5pm) and tapped some special/fun varieties at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Warning: all the beers had high ABV, 6.5 - 9%. The line for beer (and the bathroom) got longer as the day went on, so I would suggest getting there right when it starts. We enjoyed touring the brewery, which was led by the owner. He shared his personal story as well as telling us about the beer-making process. There were several opportunities during the day to do the brewery tour. The brewery is located in an industrial park and shares its parking lot with some other businesses. (The other businesses were closed during the tour). Basically, you are standing on a concrete area between some buildings during the tasting. There is also a small grassy area that backs up to a creek. They had a couple of picnic tables and also sold a few food items. We noticed that several groups brought chairs with them. Some even brought their own food. Be sure to dress appropriately because there is very little shelter/shade. We had a beautiful winter day, so we were comfortable in the sunshine. All in all, we had a fun time!

Burnt Hickory is a fantastic brewery located in Kennesaw. They just celebrated their 2 year anniversary and produce some great beer. Entry is $10 and you get a pint glass and 5 tickets worth 1/2 beer each (you can't double up and get a full pour). I visited with my family on their 2nd anniversary. Note, they are only open once a month (on a Saturday). Given that finding their beer outside of Kennesaw is difficult, I didn't know what to expect. The place was slammed. We barely made the cut-off for the souvineir glassware (folks behind us started getting solo cups). We waited about 20 - 30 minutes to get into the brewery area only to find that there was just 1 line for beer, which meant waiting in line for another 20 - 30 minutes. The space is mostly outdoors, there was some indoor space dedicated to home-brewers which provided some respite from the sun and some free, albeit smaller, samples. The courtyard area which comprised all of the outdoor space was essentially one giant line. There was little room to claim as your own. They did however have live music to listen to while you waited in line. While there isn't much they can do about the space (or their popularity), it is evident that they could not adequately support the volume they had on the day we went (Since it was their 2yr anniversary it's possible there was a surge in folks, this has been my only visit to date). We ended up leaving after our first sample and drank their beer at a local restaurant instead. 30+ minute waits for 1/2 pours in the baking sun does not = a fun day out.
