We traveled to Georgia in Jan. 2015. Not planned, but happy accident, we went to the Jimmy Carter Historic sight and then on through Plains. Absolutely loved this charming little town. The people are extraordinarily friendly and helpful - southern hospitality galore. The Historic Inn and Antique Mall is so worth stopping in to see even if you don't plan on staying there. The antique mall is packed and reasonably priced. Upstairs are 7 rooms decorated in the authentic decor of the decades (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. So much fun and so beautiful. We loved it so much that we made reservations for the next Saturday and we drove back 2 hours to stay there. We stayed in the 50s room (which was the only one available). Twin beds, clawfoot tub, 50s decor throughout. The beds were super comfortable. In the morning, or anytime in between, you can use the common areas (sitting room, kitchen with refrig, microwave, sink, balcony overlooking main street). Continental breakfast is included with the room. We were so at home and comfortable that we will make every attempt we can to come back every time we are nearby. Downtown Plains is historical and fascinating. The Buffalo Cafe - good food, peanut butter ice cream and the day we were there, they were offering homemade blackberry cobbler (yum)! Mimmies is one of the most unique places that I have ever eaten and very, very good, buffet style and everyone goes there after church on Sunday. We stayed on a Saturday night and then on Sunday morning we went to the Maranatha Baptist Church and attended Sunday School, which is taught by Jimmy Carter, and church. After church, you can get your picture taken with President and Mrs. Carter. What an amazing experience that was - being in the same room with a man who has won the Nobel Peace Prize and this man and woman who have done so much good for people all over the world. He is 90 years old and sharp as a tack and completely spellbinding and fascinating to listen to. President and Mrs. Carter have won the respect of people come from all over the world and many come to attend Church here and meet this ex-president and his lovely wife. The story of his life is one that probably will never be repeated again. This place and these experiences were some of the highlights of my life.

Tiny Plains (pop. 300) has one place to stay, this renovated downtown building. The high ceilings, exposed brick, tasteful decor, and air conditioning are appealing. Breakfast is provided, but be warned that it is packaged goods (except for fresh-brewed coffee). One has to run the shower a long time to get hot water. Reserve well in advance for weekends as many folks travel from far away to hear President Carter's Sunday-school lesson. All in all, a nice amenity to have available.

Friendly Plains GA people, great shop with many items, country and antique to browse through. Loved to go back and pick up a few more items.
