Folk-art pottery in the GA mountains are a mainstay, I have always bought pottery, been interested in it's beauty and amazing ways individuals could craft their art. But this was such a walk through time, seeing how pottery has gone from functional to the modern ornate. Well set up and thought out museum and well worth anyones time who would be remotely interested.

Even if you are just mildly interested in pottery, this will be a learning adventure. It is part of the Sautee Nacoochee Community Center. The museum is set up to take you through the years of pottery in North Georgia. The displays are authentic and the pottery displayed is wonderful. Plan to spend time in the Center as it also contains a history museum and several gift shops with North Georgia artists. So worth your time. There is a playground also to let the kids exercise and have fun while touring the area.

This museum has a very nice history of North Georgia pottery. You will be able to follow the transition from functional pottery to its current art form. a couple of the local family's have been making pottery for generations. Be there on a weekend and you can look forward to demonstrations

A must see attraction that takes you back in time giving you a sense of life in a slower harder pace. The museum is very well organized with displays of the old folk potter's work which was a necessary part of life at that time. Indication of potter's work gives you a glance of the intersoul. A lovely place to visit.

This little museum is well worth a stop! There is a video that gives a good overview of the history of pottery in the area. The displays were very interesting! Well worth the time to see this!

I went with the expectation of a museum that is interesting but not much more. I came away with very useful knowledgeand great look into the history and people in N.E. Georgia.( Also people of states around too. ) I like pottery but am not a real enthusiast. I learned so much and saw so much about pottery and history there that I will never look at hand made pottery the same again. It is Absolutely fascinating. A real great trip through history and an understanding of how and why the pottery was made like it was. I never had heard before how important it was in the development of the U.S.A.. It is in Sautee Nacoochee, Ga. and only a few minutes drive from the better known Helen, Ga.. Well worth the short drive. Do not miss it.

You should visit the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia whether or not you think you have an interest in pottery. We spent more time there than we thought we would; full of local history, especially that of the local pottery. I never thought about the REAL necessity of the pottery in the time before glass was plentiful. And the building is another work of art--modern use of wood and glass with a vaulted ceiling. And the attached art center with galleries for local artists is also interesting. Located in the old school, it brings back a lot of memories and saved another historic building. Admission to the Pottery Museum is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.

There was a lot more to enjoy than I expected. We thought the crafts store was tempting and my wife bought a scarf. Lots of history depicted as well. Worth the price of admission.

This is an incredible place to visit. Words are inadequate.I visit at least once a week. You need to see it for yourself.

The Folk Pottery Museum of North East Georgia is a beautiful museum located about 4 miles south east of Alpine Helen Georgia. This museum has many examples traditional, contemporary and historical examples of pottery found in Georgia and the south-eastern US. The building that was donated to the museum, is large, spacious and has beautiful soaring windows and wood beams. My wife and I are very grateful to Suzanne who took her time to explain the exhibit and give us a hands on experience molding clay. It was so much fun and she was so nice, we may learn pottery as a hobby !! If you are in the area, this museum is a must see !!

Even though I described it as very professional, I do not mean that it is only for adults with intensive interest in folk pottery. Most folks want to spend a hour or so there, although some want more or less. Even children as young a 6 can find things to interest and educate them, though a trip through with them needs to be maybe just 20-30 minutes. North Georgia history abounds (dating back to the Indian pot dating from 300 to 500 years), and the history of the pottery its use and development is quite well explained.I urge every visitor to this area of NE GA to spend some time here. The fees ($2, $4, and $5, I think) are so small for the kind of visit that this can be..

If you want to see what the local people contributed to their art this is one of the best and there is a lot of past history displayed. Not only is it informative but the staff is very helpful in information. Also the building is very nice, awesome wood construction, any wood worker would be impressed with the interior. I had a hard time looking at the exhibits or the building. Great place to visit on your stay in Sautee.

My family and I have visited many times and have found something new and interesting on each visit. We happened upon the museum just after it opened, and we have been sending friends -- and anyone else who will listen -- ever since!

Not only is the pottery housed in a beautiful gallery, the short film about The Meaders family is wonderful! The pottery examples are excellent and folk pottery collectors will be besides themselves. We were. Good selection of churns, face jugs, roosters by Arie Meaders, decorative pots. Just a treat to see the actual pottery wheel Lanier Meaders used.
