I was here probably 40 years ago with my family. Have been there several times since, including just lake week, somethings just never change. What a step back in time. Have not been to "Pioneer Days," but I plan on doing so.

This was an excellent example of plantation homes in the early 1800's. The entire house, even the attic and basement, and outbuildings were open to tour without restrictions and were partially furnished with period pieces. The only negative is that reductions in state funding have limited hours to weekends.

We came to Travelers Rest for their Pioneer Days celebration. What a lovely site! The Inn is beautifully maintained and the Rangers and docents were friendly and knowledgeable. The many activities going on we're really interesting. Blacksmithing, musket firing, cooking, it was all great fun to watch. We can't wait for Christmas time to see how they decorate the inn.

My husband took our 2 youngest children( 12 & 14) on a educational tour to the pioneer days. The stagecoach inn is a beautiful house built when people took pride in their craftsmanship. The inside of the inn is beautiful, however no cameras are allowed inside. The floors as well as the ceiling and walls are all made from hardwood. The furniture was well made and the tools including cooking pots were cast iron. There is a small fee to tour the inside and free to tour the grounds outside. A short video at the beginning of the tour tells the history of the inn. A must see if you're in the area.

I have a ancestral connection, but after visiting I would recommend a visit regardless. It's quite old....about 200 years for the original construction, and its located in a quiet, beautiful setting. The inn has many of the original furnishings as it was kept in the family until the last descendants passed away in the 1950's and it became a state park. If you are interested in American history, period furnishings and architecture, you should visit.

Travelers Rest is a beautiful old inn that takes you back to the pioneer days. The history of the building and preservation are very well done. Kids and adults both will enjoy this visit.

This historic stagecoach Inn is meticulously resorted and maintained for visitors to enjoy. It is located on the edge of Stephens County where the stagecoach route crossed the Tugaloo River. This was a popular stopping place for travelers in those days and this was a comfortable place to stop over. The real treat is near the Christmas Holiday when the site is decorated with traditional seasonal decorations. the entire site around the Inn has been preserved, so don't forget to look around outside and in the back.

This is a very nicely restored gem from the past. I was greeted by Ranger Sabrina upon getting out of my car. It was a long drive from Atlanta, but Sabrina changed my mood immediately, very friendly bubbly personality. I said I was here for the tour, we walked inside reached for my wallet and mentioned I am a Friends member. She waved her hand no need for that I know what you mean. My friends of GA State parks membership came with free visits to the GA State Park historic sites. I watched the informative 10 min video, which was a huge help before taking the self guided tour, it helped me pick out things I saw in the video. I am always amazed at the sites I have been to that have stair cases, how the railings are always made out of a single piece of wood. There are quite a few artifacts to see here and well as several out builds, which are in excellent shape. It is a bit out of the way, but if you ever find yourself in this little corner of Georgia, stop by this little gem. Oh they are only open on Saturdays.
