havasu ballooning

I took my mother on a balloon ride for her 80th (yes, 80th!) birthday at the QuickCheck NJ Festival of Ballooning last summer. I purchased the tickets in advance online and had to purchase festival admission tickets, as well. When we arrived that morning, the parking and check in process was very organized and efficient. We were randomly placed in a 5-man balloon owned and operated by Havasu Ballooning (based on our weight), and our pilot escorted us to the launch area. Boy, did we hit the jackpot! First of all, our pilot was extremely knowledgeable, experienced and professional. He and his crew included us in every aspect of ballooning -- even my mom -- from unpacking and inspecting the basket (gondola), balloon (envelope), propane tanks and other equipment, to setting it up and finally filling the balloon. It was work, but so much fun!! Our takeoff was smooth, and the ride lasted about an hour. We crossed beautiful farmland and wooded areas around Readington, NJ. There were 100+ balloons in various stages of flight, during our ride, so it was a sight to behold. Our pilot played music for us (yes, up, up and away and other flight-related songs - ha!). Landing was a breeze, and again we helped the crew to pack up all the equipment. Our chase van drove us back to the festival, where mom and I enjoyed the food, music and vendors for the day. Havasu had two balloons at the festival. Both were kept beautifully, and their crew was very experienced and professional. I witnessed many balloons in various states of ill-repair, as well as pilots who were flying erratically. Now that I know better, I will request Havasu the next time I take a balloon ride at this festival. Thanks for an amazing experience, Havasu!!!
