I've visited this museum several times over the last few years (I am not from this area, and can visit only when passing through Flagstaff toward other hiking places) and have enjoyed it every time. There's always something new. Their holdings are vast, and so the permanent collections vary whenever the spirit moves them to change things, which is frequently! The special exhibitions are always of timely interest (last one I saw was photography of the Ridge Fire, which was compelling). I've seen things there that were never so nicely displayed at larger museums - the curator has a great eye and feel for things of the Arizona Strip. Their gift shop is exquisite; the buyer has a charmed and charming perspective of native articles and jewelry. Do visit it!

Love this museum. I bought some jewelry from the thrift shop. It's some of my favorite jewelry to wear. The museum is full of aritfacts. I recommend going there more than once.

Great Experience! The Hopi Indian artefacts were extremely interesting. Their rugs exquisite! It was fantastic seeing these as the next day we went to Walnut Canyon so very relevant.

As a Flagstaff resident I may be in hot water for not glowing about this museum, but it is small and not the best small museum I have seen. Sorry, just not that impressed. If I had limited time in the area I would pass this up.

I saw this museum multiple times when traveling to Snowbowl since its on the way but never stopped. Finally this summer I stopped by when going hiking up at Snowbowl. A very nice little museum. It seems to have a huge donation from one of the biggest collections of native american pottery. Massive amounts of pottery and Native American jewelry, with some very exceptional pieces. Not much in the way of kids interaction exhibits, so for kids it might not be as interesting as adults depending on interest and maturity. I say this as one of the draws in the pamphlet was dinosaur bones, and they had one exceptional skeleton but that is not the true strength of this museum.Another nice strength is that the building and surrounding area is exceptionally beautiful. It had a nice little hiking trail behind it also.So Kids might be a bit bored depending on interest/age/maturity, but I highly recommend this as a short 2-3 hour stop. Very friendly guides and staff.

A really nice museum to see if you are in the Flagstaff area. The price is reasonable . If one enjoys seeing native baskets, pottery, jewelry rugs and rocks that are found in the area you'll really enjoy this. There is also a nice museum gift shop with objects from local artists.

I visited this museum whilst passing through Flagstaff on Route 66 and was so pleased I did. It is a comprehensive overview of the Colorado Plateau and provided a lot of interesting information on the area I had been driving through. The collection covers the geology, the prehistoric finds, and the history and culture of the different Native American tribes of the area. It is small museum, but the collection is expansive and the exhibits are logically set out.Although I arrived 90 minutes before closing, I was able to see all the exhibits and visit the amazing store. The attendant at the entry provided a good overview of the establishment of the museum by Mr. and Mrs. Colton (an interesting story in and of itself). The store is a must and had the best collection of Native American arts, crafts and jewelry from all the places I visited in Arizona and New Mexico. The store clearly prides itself on sourcing unique and authentic pieces. I bought a number of items for myself and as gifts. The quality and value surpassed anything else I saw in Flagstaff, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The store attendant was very helpful and carefully bubble wrapped and boxed my purchases. This museum is well worth the $10 admission.

This place has it all covered as far as the four-corners region. From dinosaurs to katsina dolls, you get the natural history as well as some of the finest examples of Native American jewelry around. The shop is killer. The architecture is charming. The setting is magical.

They pack history, archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, fine art, and more into a relatively small area. The building itself has history and is a nice structure. The docent tour was excellent. Couple of easy short walks are adjacent.

Decent museum, but a little heavy on the pottery. We looked forward to the "Trappings of the American West Exhibition" and it was a pleasant surprise that the items in the exhibition were also for sale. We selected an item to purchase only to learn that an employee of the museum had already signed up to buy this piece.(Our visit was three days after it opened). Since when do employees have the first chance to purchase items over paying customers? Usually employees are prohibited from participating in programs open to the public. This unfair practice would not encourage us to return.

This museum covers the ancient history of northern Arizona, both geologically and culturally. The exhibits here were extensive and fun to explore, although they were a bit text-heavy so be aware you don't have to read everything to still learn something. I especially enjoyed the Native American art (beautiful jewelry, pottery, weaving, and baskets) and the replica of a kiva (a traditional ceremonial chamber). Kids would probably enjoy the geology exhibit the most, as there are dinosaur skeletons and lots of rocks and things to touch. It was a fun way to spend a morning.

This is a brilliant no miss when around Flagstaff.Make sure you have a few hours to enjoy this wonderful collection of everything that contributes to makeup & history of this area.

I would not go out of my way to visit this again. It is a small museum with a very limited collection, of local geology, Indian pottery, Navaho rugs, as well as Hopi jewelry. I have been here before however there was a special show on with exciting live performances.
