Superstition Meadery was an adventure! I had never had mead before and was amazed to learn the history of mead. The location is in a cool little basement with a speak-easy feel. Our server and all of the staff were very knowledgable about mead and happy to answer questions.
You get 10 tastings for $20.00. The wine is made from honey. We go to winerys all over AZ and this is the first wine made with honey. The variety in taste was awesome. We bought Tahitian Honeymoon and Sweet Mesquite.
We tried 10 samples and bought some to go. This is the best commercial mead we have ever had, and we have tried many! A+ for knowledgeable friendly staff, A+ for rad location/ambiance, A+ for clean flavors and expertly crafted meads. WOW!
It was a wondrous surprise. IN the basement level of a store. so glad we found it. we got a flight of 8 tastings.........and we savored every drop and then bought a bottle of the Honey Highway( with Prickly pear). The wines are great gifts.... and the staff were wonderful! They knew all about the mead and told us everything we wanted to know!
If you enjoy wine or beer tasting, you will love this experience. For those of you unfamiliar with mead, it is a honey-based alcohol similar to a sweet wine. The meadery offers a creative selection of flavors and the friendly owners are often around to explain their brewing processes and the ingredients they experiment with. There is a tasting menu to go along with the seasonal varieties. They offer tasting flights for sampling a range of meads. This is a great place to come to before a dinner or for an alcoholic dessert.
We've been waiting for Superstition Meadery to open, and it finally is! The weekend of October 11th, 2014 is their official open house/grand opening. The street level has a variety of nosh worthy treats; sauces and condiments, plus fun utensils for serving. Samples are available. The downstairs cellar is the piece-de-resistance - a mead tasting bar with cheese and cracker sampler plates for cleansing the palate. The bar counter is a large lovely wooden plank - piece of art on its own. I noted below that there isn't an admission charge, however, you'll probably want to buy some mead when you're there. We'll definitely stop by again on our trips to Prescott!
