This museum is a small but well-maintained space for sustaining Batavia's history. Support it with a modest donation and then jump immediately afterwards onto the trail for a scenic walk along the Fox River. A sweet way to spend a few hours of your day. Pay attention to their limited hours before making a special trip!
By accident (and fortunate for us) we ended up here after a change in plans to visit the Outlet Mall in Aurora. And a lucky one for us too. Although we have driven through the area we have never had a reason to stop and look to see what this great little town has.Little did we know the history associated with Batavia, and this was the place to learn it. Batavia was the home of many Companies in the past that produced Windmills for most of the farms across the United States. And it was also the place that Mary Todd Lincoln came to stay at Bellevue Place to recover from a break down years ago after the death of her husband, Abraham Lincoln. There is also a Caboose situated along side the building, complete with small wooden water tower and one room Bank that you may visit to. The town has quite a interesting history and reflects its past by the many Windmills that are displayed still in and around it. If you have the time a stop, in this one-time Railroad Depot building, will easily transport you to its colorful past. You won't regret your visit.
Wonderful staff, a great place to take your children and grandchildren for a history lesson. Don't forget to take a walk around the river walk. If you are there in the summer time get a bag of popcorn for the stand across the street.
