Quiet, beautiful, relaxing and a great place to enjoy the outdoors. Several trails for a relatively non-strenuous walks. Lakes and ponds make this place a fantastic and pretty way to spend a weekend afternoon. Bring the family and get everyone's face out of their devices for the day! You'd be surprised what a day like that is truly like...amazing!
While in Chicago (Elk Grove Village) for the summer, I visited Busse Woods numerous time to run. The trail is well maintained and a great spot for outdoor activities.
I like these trails but they are often muddy and it took me a while to navigate my way around the ponds on my first visit, but I am glad for a nature trail in the city and the pond is nice at sunset
This system provides well-maintained paved trails for biking, blading, and pedestrian traffic. Several options provide varying distances, and mostly flat landscapes provide sights of plains, woods and lakes. Weekends, especially, are busy which require more care in navigation, but it is easily accessible for both residential and working users. This is a great use of public land.
great trails to walk or ride on. But too many walking people clueless that there are bikers and runners on the trail as well
awesome place to take your little kids to see the elks..also nice trails for a run, walk or bike ride..they also rent out plots for bbq in the summer
Well maintained and not hill filled, this has a good area of land used by folks for many purposes. but we like the bike trails, and especially when the AIC runs their annual pow wow
Great retreat to the outdoors not far from city/suburbia. A nice long bike/hike trail system, lake for fishing and boat rentals, open areas for picnics and kite flying. Take the north trail system around to the Elk Preserve and gaze at the 2nd largest North American animals as only Moose stand taller. On the south end past the lake hunt for crawdads or fish in the creek. Many trees for shade in the summer, and fall color. The only negative is its close proximity to O'hare Airports glide path that breaks the peacefulness often.
great place to walk ..great fall colors I try to walk the trail 1 a week the bikers are not nice they feel this is their path and you better watch out they won't watch for you
Took kids for fun fishing on 9/6/14. Perfect place for young kids to catch some small Bluegill. Plenty of parking available. Also there was a restroom and tube well nearby. Perfect!Recommend carrying a bug spray at this time of the year.
There is something for everyone at Busse Woods. the trials are phenomenal for running, walking, biking, rollerblading,… you name it. Now, two bridges cross over Higgins so the trail loop is fluid, you really never have to stop and the scenery is one you can appreciate over and over again. The new boat house provides rentals of ranging from canoes to kayaks even if you don't fish you should experience water exploration. I've experienced Busse Woods in every season and there is not a bad time to appreciate these preserves.
I lived in Chicago for 5 years and all I knew about Busse Woods was that it was a nice looking forest to speed through between Elk Grove and Schaumburg. Wow, was I mistaken. Upon looking for a trail for my marathon training, I uncovered this 7-mile beauty. I was incredibly impressed by the views of the lakes, elks, and forest in general. Hands down, the best feature is that there are full men/women restrooms EVERY mile. That is outstanding! The park was also very clean and all visitors seemed very pleasant and helpful. Two Thumbs Up!
Nice paved trails for walking or biking. Very pleasant woods and meadows. Inexpensive boat rentals. This is a very sizable park area that allows you to feel like you've escaped into nature for a while.
The Woods is a great place to ride your bicycle or just walk the trails. There are so many scenic views of lakes, prairie areas, and woods to view as you ride or walk. The trails are sometimes gently rolling and they have now built a pedestrian bridge over Higgins Road at the expressway. There are over 6 miles of the main trail to ride and many smaller ones (one going up to Golf Road) Make it a fun day at Busse Woods!
Busse Woods has an extensive trail system. The main loop is a little over 6 miles of paved bike/walking path, but there are several miles of additional paved spur paths, as well as many side trails through the woods. It will take you through woods and fields, beside lakes, over dams, and around the elk grove, where you can watch an elk herd. As others have noted, the bike path can be very busy during the weekend, and I've seen many close calls between bikers and walkers, so keep your eyes open and watch your children to make sure you avoid accidents.
