This town is a must stop if your doing the whole Route 66 like we did.. They have sooooo many interesting things to do and see, and this museum is one of them! For such a small little building there are heaps of cool stuff in here! The lady who was there that day was more than happy to walk us around and tell us about the history of the walldog museum and the history of the other various art pieces in here! Very interesting place!
There were some interesting things but very small museum. It was ok but don't be disappointed if you miss this one. I just thought the other museums in Pontiac had much more to offer.
Inside this museum is a world map with push pins indicating the cities and countries who have made a stop in here. Not only is that very impressive, but the rest is too. The Walldogs and how they paint murals on buildings in different cities was so interesting to listen to. Plus in the back of the building is a room that is a must see as to how a black light can change items. I won't tell you more than that because it's impressive and I don't want to spoil the surprise.
We stopped in to show our boys the museums that Pontiac has to offer. This place is interesting and free. My favorites parts of the museum are learning about the dresses that show there color under black light and gold leaves. The museums are open on summer weekends and the volunteers are so great! The trolley tour is a must to learn of the murals!
This place was interesting, however, the trolley tour was GREAT! As part of the Red Carpet Corridor event, the city operated a trolley at no cost with an excellent guide, named Mike, who gave interesting background facts about the murals all around Pontiac. These are a MUST SEE!!
The two most interesting features in this museum are the black-lit dresses and a display on how gold leaf gilding is done. There's surprisingly little information on the murals done by the "wall dogs". By all means see the museum (which is free, though donations are appreciated), but be sure to spend time looking at the actual murals throughout the downtown area. The cell phone tour is a particularly good way to find out about all of them.
This is a small museum but worth the stop. Next to the car museum in downtown Pontiac. Pontiac has many of the Wall Dog group murals on the downtown area walls. There are pictures of them in the museum, but they are awesome to see up close. They are huge murals and so very well done. My favorite set of them is in an alley next to the war museum and Rt. 66 museum. They are so life like. One of them has a door opening that you would think you could walk right in to. There is a place under the big Route 66 mural where you can take a picture of your car in front of it. I love the murals. It makes Pontiac so special. Well worth the trip to the whole town.
Staff were very friendly and we learnt so much about the museum and signage. How they used to be done by hand, it was very interesting and showed the skill involved. Well worth a stop off and a look round.
The wall murals in Pontiac are very impressive. This town has really done a lot in the past couple of years to market itself. The murals scattered throughout the town are awesome!
A tiny gem of a museum in the charming town of Pontiac, IL where you can learn all about the Wall Dogs - a talented group of artists who came to town a few years back and graced many of the downtown building with beautifully done wall murals. After learning about their work and seeing other works by talented artists displayed in the museum, follow the footsteps painted on the sidewalks and enjoy a fairly short stroll around town to enjoy the murals in this lovely little town. The museum is free and so is the walk! Enjoy!
Docent was entertaining. Be sure to ask to see the dresses in the room with the black lights. Very unusual.
The elderly lady inside was glad to tell us about the painters of the murals. She also told us about the hippie who owned the bus and van in the Rt 66 museum. Don't miss the dresses in the back room. With the lights on, they are drab or dull. Turn on the black light, and the amazing colors magically pop out at you.
The museum was nothing special but the 24 or so wall murals throughout the downtown area are fantastic. Well worth seeing.
go see the museum and then make sure you see the sidewalk mural of the sharks in front of Lydia's cup.
We visited this museum on June 5th. There is free parking on corner of E Washington and N Chicago. There is no admission, but you can leave a donation. The responsible will give you a brief explanation how they make the murals. An Japanese artist paints dresses, but you can only see the picture by violet light.
