The General is a pleasure to play. You need to play from the correct tees so that you can maximize your golfing experience. It is a must play on anyone's list.
Beautiful course that challenges your best shots. Long tee shots are required. Bring plenty of extra balls, if you miss the fairway, you are going to lose a few. This is an expensive course to play and unfortunately the staff doesn't always use best judgement in setting tee times and controlling flow on the course. Maybe try playing early morning sometime mid week to maximize your enjoyment and not feel rushed.
We took our 12 year old here and she loved it. Beautiful town and the history in it is great. A must see if you are at all interested in Civil War history.
1st tee time out was booked as a five-some. Held up the entire course on every shot. Ruined the golfing experience for us. When we complained, the complaints were ignored. No one ever addressed them in any way. Very disappointing.
My husband played here for the first time and absolutely loved it. He said its a beautiful course. The grounds are very well maintained
Items very expensive in this store. $1 tree items costing triple. But, guess if one needs something, they can get it.
By far one of the most picturesque golf courses one will ever play. It was BEAUTIFUL! Now for the suggestions. Number 1 Please get reflectors on the pins so players can get yardage from there Laser Link guns. Really they have been out since 1999 why don't you have them. It makes the walking from the 100, 150 markers unnecessary and will speed up the game. Number 2, when it is "cart path only" consider charging a discount rate. Really folks this course is tough enough, cart path only is nearly impossible. Two of our group quit at nine and the other six people were very tempted. Anybody going to The General on cart path only day call a head and cancel unless your a triathlete and even then think twice. Most of the cart paths are well above the fairways by some times 20 feet. Can you say Exhaustion!. Number three, charging the kind of money you should be able to give out some towels. We played South course the day before in rain and were given as many towels as needed. At The General we were given an excuse "that it rained yesterday and we are out of towels". Number four, "the yardege books are on back order" Really guys you are a premier resort golf course, it's August and the yardage books are on back order....Really C'mon. This course is premier except for those four suggestions but those are huge problems that could easily be overcome. The south course has great service but guess what , no laser pins. C'mon it's 2014 not General Grants time for heavens sake. Never going back until you fix it!!!!!
I Truly enjoy playing the General, But the best time to play is twilight! Not having to dish out major cash for a day in mid sun. Instead relax don't be hurried and enjoy your game with the sun gently going down. I've played it where I have seen the deer almost like watching my game. (it's not good) to where just hanging out and enjoying the company. Staff is nice. I haven't had an issue with that. I think the pricing is a little on the high side. I think the up keep of the course is well done. It has some beautiful holes on it. Nothing really bad to say about it. I will keep golfing it in the twilight time to save cost. I would do that on all the courses! Ciao
The South Course is a nice challenge. Tight fairways and well placed hazzards. I prefer it to the General.
The General was a beautiful course, but their staff needs some training. Very snooty, gave the impression that they didn't want us there! Played the South course the next day (AWESOME service), hard to believe this the same organization. If we return have no desire to play the General again.
It was a lovely hilly wooded course that presents lots of opportunities to lose golf balls. Control is the key here!
What a fun course to play. Very much a target golf course with a few spectacular holes on the back nine. The back nine is by far the best. Would definitely play again. Price wasn't too bad for a higher end course either. 14 is a very unique hole that you can see 3 different states from the tee box and you hit over a drop that is about 150 feet or so down.
I hope this is the General Store. Their roast beef sandwich was the best I have ever eaten! And I'm old!
Cute little shop if you need some morning coffee or an afternoon sandwich.
Scenic course with several unusual holes, tailored more for scenery as opposed to quality golf holes.Challenging with narrow fairways and thick rough. Fairways and greens okay, but turf and greens pretty average.
