crew marsh trails

The GPS told us we had arrived at 4600 Corkscrew Rd but this was Gate 2 - and it was locked! We continued another mile up the road and came across the main entrance. The trails are clearly marked, and there is a self guided interpretive guide to take you through the slash pine forest, "down" through the live oak woods to the marshland observation tower ( sign post 6 = approx .7 mile) and boardwalk. January is probably not the best time to see birds - we really didn't see any but we enjoyed the boardwalk and trails. Upon exiting another couple asked if we had seen the Bobcat... apparently the couple ahead of us did near the boardwalk! Cool!! Wish we had! But it is an area to be treasured for it's serenity as much as it's wildlife. There is no picnic area at the main entrance, though there is a large picnic area in the Hammock Trail which may or may not be taken over by a school group! There are port-a-potties just beyond the main entrance - no running water. No admission fee but donations are appreciated.

We have been to CREW Marsh Trails several times over the last few years, seeking alternatives to our tried and tested wild walks in the wider Fort Myers area. We like the open nature of this small set of linked trails, without boardwalk for the most part. The grassy trails can be boggy in the rainy season (June-November), so either wear appropriate footwear or be prepared to turn back if it is too wet.Although we do not see as many birds as, say, in Corkscrew, there is a peaceful quality and varied scenery that we like, and it is rare to meet other people so it feels like a private facility!There are maps of the trails in the car park, and a portaloo just as you exit on to the trail. A bonus for some is that you can combine this trail with a shopping trip to Miromar Outlets, which are about 30 minutes away on the Corkscrew Road.

this was a great trip to the natural side of southwest florida...nicely marked trails and lots to see...there are 2 locations that have trails and we thoroughly enjoyed them..

This is an awesome hiking trail. We enjoy taking the family here. It was a hard round trip for my 6 and 3 year old boys. It must have made a good impression because they are asking to do it again.

The many well marked trails of the CREW (Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed) are my favorites in SW Florida. They offer great diversity and offer a chance to see Florida wildlife in natural settings. The new Caracara trail is an interesting hike trough a Florida cattle area. There are two entrances to CREW hiking trails: The Cypress Dome and Crew Marsh entrances.There is no charge for hiking CREW!

if you want a walk in what FL was like in the dinosaur age this is a good place to go, it is a 12 mile loop, well marked. It is a water shed and bird rookery. If you like birds this is paradise. You will wind through wide trails that take you into remote yet safe back country. You will alligators of course, but they did not bother me. Otters, tons if turtles, I saw a bob cat, but quiet is the key to wild life observation. I walked part of the loop and biked the whole loop. If you bike it you had better be in shape, the terrain is soft and grassy so you get a work out. It took me 3 hours and after the first mile I did not see another person on the trail. It was three hours of heaven. Bring a back pack with water binoculars and maybe a change of clothes if you don't like being wet with perspiration. You can change and no one and I mean no one will see you. If you go with wife, bf, gf... you want to bring a blanket and some food for a picnic and just observe nature, all you will hear is the wind, birds and an occasional splash from the aquatic life. I highly recommend it if you like trailing.
