When we went, the rivers and water in the area were low, and I don't know if that affects these waters, but they were BEAUTIFUL. The springs were hard to get to, but worth the adventure drive in my truck. There are several springs for swimming, and trails for hiking. COLD water, no amenities and perfect for just enjoying nature and good friends. Bring your snorkel, fins and life jacket, even if youre not a diver as the water is still great for underwater viewing, and without a life jacket or some floatie, you'll get tired. (We always swim with funnoodles). This can be a fun day

We just spent the day at Peacock Spring State Park. Seven of us from 13 to 50 years of age, which is quite a variety, and we all had a great experience. We snorkeled and swam, enjoying exploring the underwater scenery. The main Peacock spring has under water cave exits/entrances that one can see with snorkel and mask. There were divers who entered the caverns at the second spring. This spring draws a large amount of cave divers. There was algea floating in the water later in the day, but that morning the water was pristine. Our favorite spot was the Orange grove hole near the entrance of the park. There are only porta potties at this park. It is very primitive compared to others that we visited. The road in is narrow for two way traffic. We had the park to ourselves most of the time. We left it and went to Troy Spring, Bob's River Spot and Blue Spring, but only swam again at Troy Spring. We didn't spend the money asked for entry fees at the other two spots. We ended up back at Peacock Spring at the end of the day. We stayed at Suwanee River State Park in their cabins and enjoyed our vacation. We also floated and snorkeled the Itchitucknee two different days. We love this type of Florida vacation! Explore and have fun.

** Make sure to have some $1. Parking is honor system and you'll have to put several bucks in an envelope. Don't think I would recommend this area for families with small children. No play ground/areas. Water is very cold! We had snorkeling gear with us. We weren't sure what to expect. After we got a look at the water, we decided to site see and skip getting in the water. The road to the peacock springs parking area had huge water puddles. We were on a motorcycle, so we had to walk. Very neat place to see.

I fell in love with this park when I first visited it over 20 years ago. The many springs throughout the park are absolutely enchanting...Real Florida at its' finest. Open water divers are allowed only in Orange Grove Sink, but snorkelers and swimmers are allowed in both Orange Grove Sink and Peacock Springs. No lights though for any divers unless cavern or cave trained. Leave them in the car and stay out of the caves if you're not properly trained and have the necessary equipment! The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. during standard hours and closes at 7 p.m. during late spring/summer/early fall. Basically when it starts to get dark it's time to leave. For non-swimmers and non-divers, there is an Interpretive Trail that mostly follows the caves underneath and visits several sinks, including dry sinks. Very informative signs with pictures of the caves and various flora and fauna. Definitely worth a visit, however, I'm not sure which park the previous reviewer Jules R was speaking of, but it definitely wasn't Peacock. There is no camping, it would be difficult to canoe up to this park via the Peacock Slough, there are no cabins, and the restrooms consist of one composting toilet and a port-o-let. They were most likely talking about Suwannee River State Park or Lafayette Blue Springs State Park. Don't let the restroom situation here scare you. Everything is very green, well-kept, and the rangers are great!

We kayaked the river and just passed thru here for our lunch break. The grounds were SO tidy and the restrooms 5 star for a state park. The cabins looked in good shape and the strangers we chatted with were friendly. All in all a great place!

We were out scouting fresh water dive sites and areas to just hang out to socialize. This is a beautiful place. So natural still. We took several other people with us and we ate our midday meal there.

I can only assume that this park, when the river isn't at flood level, is a wonderful place to cool off and go diving. The trails haven't been utilized too well, as they were very close and well hung with golden orb weaver spiders, one I met up close and personal, due to not seeing it. It has a lovely canopy of trees and is a welcoming, and inviting park.

When I visited the parking lot was filled with SCUBA divers, which is a bit interesting as you are in Florida and about 50 miles inland. The spring apparently provides for some great cave diving. While the spring was interesting, enough of the green algae had cleared away from one area to see the crystal blue water below and bubbles from divers bursting at the surface. I didn't spend a ton of time here as I struggled to find something to do besides scuba dive.
