This is a nice area for a walk or riding your bike, if you just want to get out of the house with the kids and have a really good chance of seeing animals in the wild. It`s easy to find on HWY 441 going north out of Okeechobee, it`s free and you`re walking on improved surface trails.
Not far from the hustle and bustle of the town of Okeechobee sits this beautiful park. Every time I go here I am amazed by the diversity of animals and the beauty of the park. This park is home to American Alligators, white tailed deer, Ospreys, Otters and more. This is a great oasis pretty close to the main drag of Okeechobee. It's definitely a must see!
Perfect place for a leisurely stroll or bike ride while viewing many awesome sights along the way. Lots of alligators, different birds and waterfowl all over the place. Mostly a flat trail, nothing to challenging for the young or elderly.
quiet place to walk or bike and lots of opportunities to see alligators basking on the shoreline - great in hot weather
This trail is located North of Okeechobee. Where the double lane roads change to single lane, it is approximately 1.6 miles ahead on the left. This is a Stormwater Treatment area where a trail was built around it. It is 3 miles in length. The trail is flat, and it is all crushed shell. It is free and there is plenty of parking. There is a map at the entrance to the trail. If you look to the left, you will see 2 picnic tables near the water. It is one of 3 areas to stop and either rest or enjoy a picnic. Along the trail, you will see plenty of birds. I counted 5 gators on this last trip and even 2 good sized otters. There are also plenty of cows grazing nearby. The nature along the way changes from time to time and can be quite beautiful. Even though this was a short bike ride, you can ride as many times as you like. I think I see more people stopping to walk this trail, than ride. I also see a few people with large cameras, hoping to catch some great pictures. Outside of the rim at Lake Okeechobee, there are not too many places to ride your bike in nature near Okeechobee. This is a very pretty, and even peaceful place (despite some of the trail near hwy 441). If you want some exercise, or jut love nature, you should give this place a visit.
