There is no better way to learn about what pioneer times in Florida were like than to spend an hour or two at The Stranahan House. You will learn about the early pioneers who came to South Florida and braved mosquitoes, hurricanes, alligators, heat and isolation. Interestingly, you'll learn that The Stranahan's established close ties with The Seminoles, gained their trust and friendship, and served as a connection for a wide group of people from a diverse population. The beautiful home is full of interesting period pieces, photos and sits on the bank of The New River. It's really a glorious place and it's also located right on Las Olas Blvd. In fact, you can spend an hour or two there and then go to lunch at The Cheesecake Factory if your heart moves you! Or ramble down Las Olas Blvd., sightseeing. Or hop on a Water Taxi for a great tour of The Venice of The USA. Don't miss out on this incredible destination. I would also recommend a visit to The Bonnet House and Sample McDougal House. Three historic treasures that have somehow been preserved in this fast-paced, modern metropolis.

Home of the First Pioneers of Fort Lauderdale, this is now a Museum right on the water's edge. It was also the venue for the first Post Office, Trading Post, Community Center, and Town Hall. Tucked away in the trees we saw that Historic Bell also with its very own history.A lot of this home's interesting background is narrated by the Tour Guides without whom you cannot enter the House. We really learned a lot about Fort Lauderdale, and the social and economic impact of this home.on the area by taking this tourWe really enjoyed walking around the grounds later, and recommend a visit to those who love History.

House is recreated from the 1920s. Must take their tour at 1, 2 or 3 pm. It takes about an hour. Docent was very pleasant and knowledgable. If you don't quite have the time, check it out if you take the water taxi. If I could give it 3 and a half stars, I would.

My spouse and I went for the hour long tour of the Stranahan house. It was interesting learning about the history of Fort Lauderdale and about the Stranahans. The tour guide was knowledgeable though she seemed puzzled as to why two younger looking tourists would be interested in the tour. Everyone else on the tour was 50+. Young people are interested in history too!

The house has been restored to its function in 1915. The wooden paneling is beautiful. Our guide explained that some of the original furnishings have been returned to the house. Our guide seemed to know everything about the house and family. He had stories to tell about the family and how the house was used as a restaurant. I'm glad I was able to see the house. There's limited hours with tours at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00. Park in the garage near the Art Museum (only $1.25 an hour) and walk down to the house and Los Olas Blvd.

I brought some friends to the Stranahan house who were from out of town and knew very little about Fort Lauderdale history. Our guide was entertaining and informative. We very much enjoyed the tour .

Very interesting hour long tour of the house was loaded with information on the beginnings of Ft. Lauderdale and the original settlers. Tour guide was great, lots of tidbits but kept it moving too. Limited free parking.

Fascinating tour of history and development of Fort Lauderdale and vicinity. This home built by a shipwright of local pine wood has survived to tell the story. The docent giving the tour was truly interested in bringing out the personalities of the Stranahans and their contribution to the history of the area. My friends were staying at a hotel next door, and we would have missed it except for the information that I had on AAA guide. Near the dock for the tour boats. One caution: it is a two story building with small rooms, so not suggested for those who have problems with stairs. Otherwise, well worth the 45 minute tour.

This home is the centerpiece of the 3 families that really founded Ft Lauderdale and were principally responsible for its early explosive growth. The Stranhans, Comartys, and Kings family history is amazing.

Nestled between high-rise resorts, this former trading post was where Ft Lauderdale began. The tour is fascinating and the decor authentic. Tours are in the afternoon on the hour and take about 45 minutes.

Volunteer guides did a superb job of answering questions and telling the city's early history at the spot where it all began.

The tour was very interesting and informative. The house itself was very nice but a little small. Worth a visit.

A wonderful gem of a museum right on the edge of the Stranahan River. The only original building in the area. Lovingly restored with many of the original furnishings and many other same timed pieces. Our guide Doris is a walking encyclopedia of the history of the origins of Ft Lauderdale. Local info books have $2 off admission coupons. Easy to get to by water trolley, water taxi, vehicle or by foot. Interesting buildings in nearby historical district. Most empty and in direspair. Thankfully lovers of history have made sure the Stranahan Museum is a great stop! Ghost hunters welcome on tours at 1,2,3pm and Sun. evening ghost tours. That would be so fun!!!
