After looking at one of the photos I took myself I now believe. Only negative about the tour I feel guides should be more serious about the tour not make jokes it's suppose to be scary not funny and guest should act accordingly. But since I got the photo it's all good
Stopped by the Lighthouse to take photos, visit the gift shop. Did not have time to climb up to the top, but would like to go back and do that, as I did it as a Kid 35 yrs. ago and that is why I wanted to go back. There is an Alligator Farm a few blocks away that is good to visit for the kids.
We went to this later in the afternoon. The museum had a decent amount of information in it and the grounds were great for walking around. Initially I had planned to walk up the light house, but by the time we were done with the museum my feet were aching so I knew I wouldn't make it up and down all those steps happily. Do this in the morning when your feet aren't tired from walking.
I adored this experience. For $10 you get to climb the lighthouse, tour the inn keepers museum and you get complete access to the grounds which include trails and more. It's a self guided tour so you can go at your own pace. Two thumbs up.
Great lighthouse and great views from the top. It is more expensive than some I have toured, but was worth it to see the view.
I think lighthouse lovers would probably enjoy this the most. It's a really neat old lighthouse, with a rich history.
First time you should at least do the tour of the 'Music Boxes' with their fantastic collection of antique music boxes (like old time honky tonk pianos using sheet music with holes which ran through, playing music tune selected). You will be amazed on how many different machines their were, and with the breadth of this collection and in such good playable condition as the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum (top floors has City Hall etc. since the 1970's I believe). The Antiques, Art, China, and more from around the world are on display here- you will need MORE than one trip or be prepared to spend a day if any of the items mentioned herein is in area of interest to you. Personally been here many times and plan to return (they have a dining area in the Old Pool, never tried it but have heard it was good from others <too long to explain being in the pool- true- need to see for yourself>
A great trip to a beautiful light. The history of the light and the area is informative. The keepers house and the grounds has a lot to add to the visit.
I was hesitant to climb this lighthouse because of my fear of heights. But I wanted so badly to see the view. Luckily it has a sitting area after every 20-22 steps (Yes I counted! It kept my mind busy!) So I took it slow and took breaks in between. The view is beautiful. You can see for miles. I don't like to feel movement when I'm up high - it really makes my anxiety go up. But I'm happy to report I didn't feel any movement from the wind up there. It was very sturdy. There is a guide up there who is willing to answer any questions.
