The trails are well maintained and marked. There is even a farm that you can walk to along the way where you can taste cheese.

The Retreat Trails are owned by the Brattleboro Retreat, who seem to hold them in trust for the entire Town of Brattleboro. It is hard to assess the value of having several miles of wooded, carefully maintained walking trails within two miles of the downtown area! Maps are usually available at the Trails' entry points, which include at the Brattleboro Retreat itself, Cedar Street opposite the Ski Jump site, behind and to the right of the Ski Jump, and behind Solar Hill conference center. The locals know about other entry points, but those are the main ones.

Great spot to hike, quiet and well kept trails. People with dogs are very responsible and aware. Can't wait to hit the trail on snow shoes.

only problem was the leaves on ground masked the path so we got a bit lost but found our way out easily.

The trails are very well kept and the hiking is easy.Great place to bring a date as well as a family outing. The tower is very interesting it is like being in midevile europe.

I came here a few different times with friends. The first time I saw the tower I was in awe and at a loss for words. Captured a couple good photos and would definitely recommend hiking up to the tower. Great place to walk through, thee are a few different trails.

We visited this system of trails in June and were very impressed. There are miles of trails just off Rt 30 split in to two sections. The Cedar Street area features The Tower, an immense stone structure that appears almost apparition like as you hike up the trail. There is no marked parking area on Cedar Street but we left our car across the street at the Harris Hill Ski Jump. There is a bridge across the stream and a somewhat harrowing road crossing to the trail head kiosk. The farm side trails and Retreat Farm (with much better parking) is adjacent to the Grafton Cheese shop on RT 30 and features both the ice pond and the top of the Harris Hill Ski Jump as points of destination. The walking is easy and the trails are fairly well groomed. The only reason I did not give this an excellent rating is the marking of the trails is sparse and there were no maps in either areas kiosks. If you plan to go I would advise visiting the web site below, print yourself a map and that way you will have a much better idea where you are heading.Trail Map:http://www.brattlebororetreat.org/sites/default/files/tinymce/RetreatTrailsMap%20Updated.pdf
