The local historical society created this museum during the 1076 Bicentennial. Since then it has grown and improved. It provides a wonderful picture of the town over the decades. There is everything from photos, maps, and documents, to local artifacts. It is a wonderful way to create an image of Ludlow, Vermont over the decades, and is well worth a visit.
A landmark in Ludlow, Vermont...for starters President Calvin Coolidge went to private school there. As you drive down the street you can feel the history as you pull up to this magnificent building from the 1800's ...located on the Black River, you walk up the steps back in time to the good old days...
The Black river Academy Museum (also home to the Black river Historical Society) is located in the old school where President Calvin Coolidge attended. The three floors are filled with interesting exhibits that outline the history of the people and businesses that created and developed this Vermont area from its inception in 1761 to the present. Chief highlights include: the role of the Finnish immigrants in the area, the furniture and businesses that grew in the area, and the collection of photos and memorabilia covering these periods. The museum also has in its collection a World War II section. The museum is fully ADA accessible. Due to its limited hours and open days, interested people should check the museum's web site or call to see if it is open.
