What can I say, well here goes... i've been camping at Lake Carmi for over 40 years, yes almost as long as the park has been open. This park has changed very little over these years and that is one of many reasons that I return two or three times a year. The campsites are nice and clean upon arrival and most are quite private. We almost always take a leanto site on the water since we travel with a tent trailer, so if the weather is bad were not stuck in the tent. The lake is just the right size for boating,canoeing,etc... The beaches are very nice in both camping areas, section B having the bigger one. There are enough facilities in both areas to keep everyone happy, bathroms, showers etc... Note: no power on thecsites, love it.For the first time this year the park will be open till Thanksgiving and if the weather permits, we will be there for the fourth time this year. All in all a very nice park for everyone. PS: leave our tv and radio at home and enjoy the nature Lake Carmi has to offer. Enjoy your stay. :-)
We have been camping here for close to 40 years. It is a quiet, relaxing getaway, 15 minutes from the Canada/US border. The main reason we keep coming back is because it remains the same, close to nature.... no electrical sites, well maintained (thanks to the wonderful park staff and volunteers) a great choice of sites, open, shaded, with or without a leanto. They have upgraded the comfort stations over the past couple of years, so no worries. All have flush toilets, hot showers - 50cents, and an electrical plug for you hairdryer. There is also firewood and ice available on site. The lake is great for swimming, fishing or just sunset watching. As for the mention about generators...... the park is cracking down, now it's just up to the campers to their part. (My opinion is they should be banned completely.... if you can't live without your cellphone or television for 2 or 3 days....stay home!)
We rented a camp on Lake Carmi (not the state park, a private camp) and had a great time. Lovely views, tranquil waters and not too crowded made for an excellent week of lakeside fun. We'll be back again for sure!
It would have been a great campground... if it wasn't for the number of people running generators in the evening...Sure, they turned them off by 21:00h... but still...
It sounds and looks great...on the lake sites! We liked that there were some many sites that were on the lake, especially lean-to's. We finally found a state park that allows dogs in a Cabin. We couldn't see inside the cabin, but we're looking forward to staying there.
