My wife and I finally attended our first cooking school and we were impressed. We took a class on tiramisu and it was just wonderful. The instructor was excellent. The class was just the right amount of time. I like their teaching method by showing you how to do each step and then letting you do on your own. I can't speak to the other classes, but it was nice being able to take our tiramisu home with us. We will definitely take another class.
We stopped by here for breakfast at the end of our stay in the area. The public part of the building is beautiful with a rotunda roof and nicely timbered ceiling and posts in the restaurant. We ordered our food and were given a disc shaped pager, which lit up like a UFO when the food was ready. The store is so tempting, I guarantee you will not be able to leave without at least one item! The service in the cafe is fine, and the store employees very helpful. Our breakfast was delicious and so was the coffee.
This is a great place for browsing, even if you don't buy anything. They have everything from specific types of flour, dish towels, to rolling pins. You can also watch classes taking place while sipping a cup of coffee. It is a place people drive some distance to get to.
We’re so pleased that you were able to visit with us this past fall, and are glad to hear that you enjoyed both the environment and options available in our Café! Thank you also for sharing your thoughts about the other offerings that you would like to see us build upon. Aside from the well-stocked retail store, you’re correct that our Baking Education Center classes are one of the primary draws for those visiting from near or far. Despite this, we do hope that you were able to participate in the free baking demos offered in the store, read up on our wall-displayed company history, and enjoy watching our bakers craft artisan loaves from the bakery viewing area. Your valuable feedback is taken into consideration and we ask that you please contact our friendly team at 800-827-6836 if we can collect any additional thoughts you may have. Warm regards,Jesse@KAF
King Arthur Flour is always a great stop. Just a few miles from White River Junction, VT-Lebanon, NH. The store has hundreds of items, primarily for baking. There are also various types of flour, mixes for breads, cookies, muffins, and other baked goods, a lot of cookbooks, many gadgets to make your baking experience fun, easier and more enjoyable. While you are there, make sure you check out the cafe/bakery area. There are wonderful baked goods, sandwiches, soups, and other foods available for lunch, a snack or just to nibble on. Make sure you try the home made marshmallows! Fantastic.
There is no place quite like this anywhere in the world: special store for bakers, plus a baking school with two enormous baking classrooms, plus a huge bakery, plus a lovely cafe! The store has everything you could want or need, including a great array of gluten free mixes for brownies, cakes and cookies. The cafe is lovely and serves great food. King Arthur also has donated and equipped a studio here for Vermont Public Radio!
I have done about 5 baking classes and they have all been great. I happened to take the croissant class a second time because a different friend was interested. They changed the format of the class to make it flow more smoothly. Every teacher we have had there is extremely well qualified, passionate and delightful. There is a combination of learning while they show you a technique followed by doing the technique while they support you. The opportunity to taste their finished products (you take yours home) and a 10 % discount at the Baker's Store makes a great day fabulous!! If you enjoy baking, even if you don't really know how, or if you are quite good, this is for you. Don't wait to sign up, they fill fast.
We visited in the early afternoon in mid-January. It is very close to route 91 with easy access. We had lunch in the cafeteria. The sandwiches and salads we had were excellent. The various facilities are interesting. We made several purchases in the Bakery Store. They have a good selection of baker's necessities as well as local specialties. We tried several items and ended up buying some jams, preserves, special flours and of course fresh bread. It is certainly a worthwhile stop for anyone visiting the Hanover (Dartmouth) area.
Except for getting a little confused by directions to the Store - the visit was wonderful. The bakery is a working bakery - with a easy view of a few bakers preparing and baking product (not massive production in this location - artisanal in scope and feel). The store was loaded with gadgets and souvenirs and the outdoor area was filled with interesting plants and photo opportunities.
Maybe King Arthur is to bakers what Soho's Dean & DeLuca once was to food lovers, perhaps what DisneyLand (when that was the only one there was) was to kids. When I am there visions of sugar plums and more float in my head, tastings from the bake shop get into my mouth, and for a blissful hour I can fantasize about all the great things I want to bake when I get back home. Plus there is a large section with gluten free products: helpful in our family. This is the place that nudges me to be a better cook. The books are there, the ingredients (how many kinds of vanilla extract do I really need?), several kinds of flours of course, and the staff which is consistently friendly and helpful. If every company was like King Arthur (staff owned, by the way), the world would be a better place.
Thank you for taking the time to share your family’s recent visit with us, Denis. We are sorry to learn that it didn’t turn out to be what you were expecting, but have to admit a bit of confusion in regards to our brochure. King Arthur Flour does not currently offer a formal tour program, but we do invite customers to take a self-guided tour of our facilities that includes watching our bakers in the demo kitchen while preparing featured recipes, read up on our wall-displayed historical information, and enjoy tasty samples which are often offered in the Baker’s Store itself. Our Baking Education Center is also part of the fun as it offers classes for almost every age and skill level, but does require some planning ahead as the classes do typically have a registration fee and often fill up quickly. We don’t intend for our brochure to be misleading in any way and apologize if your time spent with us didn’t quite lead to the experience you had anticipated. Please do feel encouraged to reach out to our friendly Customer Support Team at 1-800-827-6836 if we can listen to any additional feedback or thoughts you may have.Warm regards,Jesse@KAF
I like to bake and have used King Arthur flour for years so stopped in to see what the baker's store and education center was all about. Let me tell you, I was overwhelmed once I got in the store part. There are so many products, types of flour, baking kits, baking books and much more spread around a huge room on shelves along the walls and on racks and tables all through the room. I have never seen this much stuff related to baking all in one place. Besides all the regular flours I found many gluten free mixes as well. The building is very attractive and it was mobbed during my visit with many out-of-state visitors. There are a number of windows that you can look through to watch bakers making a variety of baked goods. In the central portion of the large building layout, there is a cafe with a sizable menu and lots of seating. Besides many typical tables and chairs, there are plush easy chairs as well. I didn't order any of the meals, but I did try an almond covered florentine cookie and some decadent mocha pudding. The place is easy to get to, just off I-91 at exit 13 (Norwich/Hanover) and then down Rt 5 south on the right side, approx a mile or two. It did not strike me as a big draw for kids but they might be interested for a little while. Adult bakers, however, will think they died and went to heaven.
This was our second visit to King Arthur. I love to bake and going to the store for me is like being set loose in a candy store. Unique store with tons of useful items. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The cafe was very good. We had the Tomato Basil Soup and a half sandwich. There were many desserts to choose from. The most exciting part of our visit was taking a baking class. Loved it. Jessica our instructor was very informative and a great teacher. Looking forward to a return visit.
We’re so glad you were able to stop in and visit, Clara! Thank you for sharing your request for more free educational offerings and activities. I have shared your feedback with our team at the Baker’s Store for their future consideration. Please don’t wait too long to visit us again! Jesse@KAF
