Not our favorite orchard, but they have delicious cider donuts- favorite in Chittenden County! They have a nice variety of apples and a play area for the kids
Great down-to-earth orchard with small store. Especially fun in the fall during the harvest when they have THE BEST cider donuts! Nice setting with views and a variety of apples (and pumpkins in fall). Friendly folks.
I have had many a cider doughnut in the past, and this place has THE BEST ones. They are covered in sugar and just wonderful. You must meet Nick, he's about 6'6" tall and will show you his still if you are nice :) Ask him the story of how it was transported to the US, it's a great tale.
Had such a great experience. Lots of variety, you can go at your own pace. Great place to visit especially if you've never done apple picking before.
If it is Fall and you find yourself in Burlington, VT, you have to pay a visit to Shelburne Orchards. Pick you own apple, eat fresh cider donuts and enjoy the beauty of life in Vermont.
We stopped by and were thrilled with the selection of apples and great price, especially for an organic farm! We also LOVED the apple betty - a real treat.
We went to the orchard midday on a Saturday and there were plenty of people, but it did not feel crowded. We got tons of apples at a good price and picked them ourselves. The cider donuts are great also and they had live drumming all day. A great experience for any age.
We enjoy apple picking here every year. Lake Champlain is the backdrop and it is so beautiful. There is a tire swing and many rows of various apples that you can visit and pick to fill up your bags. It is always a fun fall activity! We always stop into the "general store" area afterward to pick out pumpkins, prepicked apples (if we've missed their harvest window!), and sauces which are incredible. Every year we look forward to picking up a jar of peanut satay (also available at Healthy Living) from there! There are several ciders and also fresh doughnuts available at the store too.
We went to this orchard early on a weekday. There were only a couple of other cars there,so we had the place mostly to ourselves. The apples were excellent, but not cheap---$20.00 for a half a bushel. As a sideline, there are a lot of nostalgic things to look at.
Apples, cider, and now in barrels - brandy. Can't buy any yet (though I got a little taster last time I was in!) but you can sign up to get a bottle as it comes due.
The Shelburne Orchards has been a popular attraction for a number of years. During the season you can pick a variety of apples, buy a homemade apple pie, or cider donuts to go along with the apple cider. They hold special events during the fall including an apple pie baking contest.
