I think the title says it all. Closed and for sale. Plenty of parking. Lots of road construction out front.. Bring your dog. Buy it yourself? Great star gazing...no lights!
The Purple Moon Pub and it's sister restaurant, Easy Street Cafe, have closed as of May, 2013. There are no plans (at least none circulating amongst the locals who frequented the place) to use the abandoned space as a new food establishment. While it's no great loss from a culinary and customer service perspective, it does leave a 'Hole' on RT 100 for seekers of conveniently located libations and esculent comestibles. Local Folk Smokehouse is nearby if you're seeking a local, authentic, pool tabled, fun divey experience at reasonable prices (but not fantastic food, if you're a foodie), and Tracks (the downstairs 'Bar' room, no reservations necessary for cocktails, but large parties usually cannot be accommodated without notice) at the Pitcher Inn in Warren serves a light bar menu and has a good cave and tap selection- casual, but more sophisticated~ a bit tonier. Call first ANYWHERE in the MRV, opening and closing times tend to be fluid, frequent closings abound between tourist seasons, and the few fine restaurants tend to be booked days or weeks in advance. Oddly, from a business perspective- on busy nights, no restaurant I've ever called in the Waitsfield/Warren area would serve Take Out of any kind. One would think that that'd be the ticket to earning profits- selling food with no table service- but the culture here doesn't really seem to subscribe to a fiscally motivated ethos. Jay's closed the same week, a loss I'll not mourn. That restaurants in this valley seem to fold and struggle with insolvency, despite a clear desire from many full and part-time residents and tourists to eat out frequently at well run, toothsome, refined, casually elegant establishments (particularly restaurants that are consistently, reliably open for walk-in full service until 10 pm) indicates that the Mad River Valley is acutely ripe for the right sort of restaurant to be launched, and that a talented, finance/business oriented individual (chef-owner?) who understands that working 60+ hours is not only common and universal, but indeed requisite in the food business, might enjoy success in this community that is sorely wanting and athirst for a professionally run, au courant, stylish, informal culinary enterprise. There most certainly is a customer base of devoted foodies who are keenly cognizant of the need for a wider range of choices, and eager to support a fledgling chef/owner who meets these needs with their enduring patronage and unparalleled loyalty and ardor.
My husband and I held a "welcome party" for our wedding guests at the Purple Moon. The owner made sure that all of our guests felt welcome, there was always food available and that everyone always had a drink in hand. The food was great and they have an interesting selection of local brews. Everyone had a great time...the kids enjoyed hanging out on the porch, the live music provided a great atmosphere and there was plenty of room for everyone to mingle. A great place to have a gathering or just grab dinner and a drink.
We had a great time here. They have very good live music and the food is good. Very friendly owners and staff in a relaxed atmostphere.
Go visit this place! One of our top three in the area.Margaritas are to die for :)
We went to the Purple Moon Pub upon a recommendation. It has the most comfortable and cozy atmosphere. Comfy couches and chairs with a fireplace. Great music playing to just lounge around and have a drink before dinner. The food was excellent. The owner is a great guy. Next time we are in Waitsfield we will stop by the Purple Moon Pub.
