We were there in late September and the views were beautiful. I got some gorgeous pictures. Enjoy the Mad River Valley area
The water level was down, but so beautiful. All the shops and restaurants with local sourced foods was great.
Awe-inspiring views at every turn of the road. Be sure to pack cool weather clothing, even in summer. Locally maintained trails make this area like your own back yard.
Real mountain skiing, real people, real fun!The legacy lives on, from the funky Basebox to Birdland, to those wonderful blue cruisers from the top.
Cycle the roads, visit the covered bridges, dine on the locally grown and farm raised food, visit Ben and Jerry's twice, kayak in the 2 rivers, discover warm VT hospitality without the touristy vibes of a ski town.
There's nothing quite like Mad River glen, and there's a great feeling of accomplishment just to get down a run. The "out of bounds" stuff isn't really, and is quite challenging
I felt like a 10 year old again splashing and swimming in the river. Cool and clear water. The Bobbin has a nice deep area to swim. If you stay at Wilder Farm Inn, you can borrow their tubes. Could have spent more time just exploring local swimming holes!
We stayed in Waitsfield at the Wilder Farm Inn and enjoyed stand-up paddling on Blueberry Lake, lunch at the Warren General Store, hiking and jogging on the local trails, swimming in the Mad River, seeing beautiful perennials at the Von Trapp Greenhouses, getting massages at the Waitsfield Farmers' Market. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
If you are spending some time in Waitsfield VT this summer you won't be disappointed. Be sure to check out a few of the many beautiful swimming holes. Lareau SWimming hole is a great place to start. Wonderful grassy area for picnicing and a nice deep swimming hole. Super spot for easy rock diving and a hidden waterfall! Easy parking and good for the whole family. Our new favorite is Warren Falls just a short drive further on route 100. Several deep blue swimming holes, cliffs for jumping, rock slides and amazing beauty. Finish the trip with American Flatbread Pizza.
The mad river is host to numerous activities. Many people canoe and kayak in various spots along the river. Tubing is another favorite past-time. For those coming from out of state, you can rent tubes at Clearwater sports in Waitsfield Village. There are numerous spots along the recreation path and elsewhere to get yourself started on your rubing journey. There are many swimming holes both along the recreation path and in other lesser known areas. For those visiting the area, the recreation path is a good base for most of your water activities. The recreation path is not a paved path as many people are lead to believe by. It is a dirt and grass path that winds its way through farm fields and follows the river. If you visit the Mad River Path website you will see maps that will lead you to parking areas and shows the layout of the path. This path is great for both walking and biking. Many people walk their dogs on the path. Dogs must be on leash and must be cleaned up after. There are only trash cans in the parking lots so unfortunately that means you may have to carry the bag for quite aways before disposing of it. Overall, the Mad River and the Mad River Path provide a plethora of outdoor activities. If you are confused about where to park or where the best places to go are, just stop and ask a local. I can't guarantee you will get the same answer from everyone, but it is good insider information. There is also a place to stop for more official visitor information in the Village of Waitsfield. Enjoy!
