We had about 90 minutes to visit yesterday in cold weather. The house was amazing - You could live in it today. Filled with history, but mostly a beautiful home with detailed architectural details. Then we went to see the Pullman car. Very extravagant. Gives you an idea of what it was like to live in those times (if you had a lot of money). We left and then went to the outlet stores...since it was 5:00, it wasn't busy at all. A wonderful day trip.

We spent several hours, touring the main house, cross country skiing, and enjoy the beauty of the place.

Just love Hildene, any season you visit there is something different to do. They have a great gift shop too! Loved being able to see the Pullman car this time.

Visited with my family on an "off" day from skiing. We brought our snowshoes and hiked from the visitor center to the Pullman Car for a quick tour and then onto the Farm and back. Our kids (3 and 7) loved having "destinations" and especially loved the goats and sheep at the farm. It was a great pit stop with restrooms. We didn't get a chance to tour the mansion but really enjoyed the snowshoeing.

I took my kids ages 7 and 9 and my dad and his wife to Hildene. We were thinking about having my sister's wedding there and plus we are all interested in history. The property is beautiful. The gardens are beautiful. The views are beautiful. We found out the wedding would be outside in a tent though. As far as the experience though, we had a nice day. It was easy to get around and the kids enjoyed it. There wasn't any place to buy food though, so pack a lunch, which is actually a nice thing to do since there are areas outside to picnic.

I wouldn't bring kids here but as mature travellers we enjoyed it. There are 2 brief videos to flesh out the history. The house is full of fascinating architectural details as is the restored Pullman Car. There is a working dairy goat farm that produces cheese, a garden kitchen and gorgeous views.

This is a gem and well worth going to. The staff are kind, helpful and I learned a great deal. I hope to go back and cross country ski on the property.

Really enjoyed the visit to a landmark that I had not known existed. The house is very neat to walk through, be sure to wait for the organ demonstration, very impressive for a house of that era. The view from the garden into the valley is amazing, and the grounds are great for walking. So glad we stopped by!

very interesting and historical landmark very close to the Inn, the grounds would be prettier in the spring.

We took a few days from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season to visit Manchester, VT. We decided to spend a few hours at Hildene, the home of Robert Lincoln (son of Abe Lincoln). The home was beautifully decorated and filled with the sounds of Christmas with live organ or piano music. Our guide was Dick who conveyed his love of the site with its history. Well worth the time. Highly recommend it. We spent 1.5 hours at the site - it was our second visit to Hildene.

nice, it was in the winter, so not much todo, but nice christmass decorations. In the summertime this is great for kids also!

While a tad off the beaten path, Hildene is a MUST see when you are in Manchester. It's rich in history and the group who takes care of it has done a superb job. You start and end in the lovely gift show (I know...surprise...surprise) and includes an interesting short movie about Hildene. Then there's a walk uphill (maybe challenging for some folks) to the actual home itself. It's just lovely inside and the history of the Lincoln family is very interesting. The gardens (in season) are spectacular and the view over the "cliff" is just lovely and gives one a good sense of the course of the Battenkill River and the Meadows below. The visit can and should include the Goat Creamery and the Pullman Railroad Car. I think there's 412 acres in all which continue to be developed.

Was there on a weekday and so it was nearly desolate which made the whole experience incredible. Skiing around the grounds and then stopping to tour the house. It was just perfect.

This is the home of Abraham Lincoln's son, Robert Todd. He became a executive for the railroad. The mansion is full of nice period pieces. The grounds are nice, There is a working farm. You can tour two train cars. The first is his nicely furnished private room car. The second is the traditional passenger seating car. All in all, it was a nice few hours.
