historic roscoe village

Visited the General Store, got us 1.5 pounds of fudge! The couple that runs the store is very very nice! In fact all the store owners are very friendly and have unique items. We loved visiting the village.

Since the 1830's, Historic Roscoe Village has had its ups and downs. In recent years, the "Ups" are worth a fresh visit. New exhibits, updates and new shops are worth another visit.

We have been coming here for a number of years. I love the quaint shops. They shop keepers are so welcoming with the exception of the kitchen store. The owner in that store needs a "happy pill"

We came we saw and we liked it. It was a step back in time when the river barges were pulled by horse and the history was interesting. There are old shops on the tour and you go back in time with the talented people providing the tours. We did not take the barge and that might be a reason to go back.

This village is way to hyped up. Its an old canel town, buildings are nice to see, but they are filled with shop now. My biggest disappointment was we see all the signs and flyers about visiting the place and we finally do at 5:30pm on a Saturday, all the shops were closed and only 2 restaurants existed.The boat tour was fairly decent, but never went through a lock which I think is a canal highlight for sure.Ranked poor because the hype of this place doesn't match what you get when you're there. If shopping is your thing, just go 15 minutes north to Amish country. Much better selection.

Not sure what makes this the number 1 attraction in Coshocton it is just a main street with a lot of older buildings turned into retail shops.

It's like stepping back into the early 1900's. Some things are free or you can pay a small price to take a tour. I also enjoy the drive and the pretty country

First stop at the visitors center and see a short film on the beginning of the canal town of Roscoe village. You can pay to visit some living history buildings in town but not all are open and the ones that are have limited hours. Be sure to check hours. The old Roscoe school was really neat and the village itself was interesting but many buildings were closed. We did the canal ride which was a great history lesson. It doesn't always run so you will want to find out before you go over there. Good restaurants in the village and it's worth doing.

On our way from Columbus to Pittsburgh, we stumbled upon this wonderful little village right off of Ohio State Road 83, we ate lunch and walked around for about two hours, overall a excellent stop!

There is not much to see. Parking cars in front of historical buildings block the view, so you cannot get good photo shuts

We took our grandchildren (ages 6 & 8) to Roscoe and had a wonderful day. The kids loved the hands-on activities in the visitor's center, and were eager to complete their "Bill of Lading" by visiting each of the demonstrations in the historic buildings...the broom maker, the printer, etc. We only wished we would have had more time, as we didn't have the opportunity to take the canal boat tour. It is a wonderful way to teach kids some of the history of the canal system.

As an Ohioan, I wanted to visit Historic Roscoe Village-a port along the former Ohio and Erie Canal-for years. I finally made time for a visit after reading about it in Midwestern Living Magazine. What a pleasant surprise it was. Roscoe Village takes you right back in time with cobblestone sidewalks and a number of period buildings, which you can tour after paying a small admission. The living history tour includes costumed actors, which guide you through fully restored rooms. The tour can easily take up an entire morning and afternoon. While it is a great excursion for school-age children, I found it to be entertaining and educational for adults as well. I also learned a lot about the history of trade canals and their operation in Ohio after viewing a short film at the information center and a riding in the horse-drawn canal boat.

We liked this place. The burger was cooked properly, and the ribs were very good. Both portions were large, and the server did an excellent job of frequently checking on us in a very polite and attentive manner. This is really a bar and grill and the dimly-lit atmosphere was enjoyable (uh, we did need to ask for a table by the window so we could see better due to our mature eyesight). They had nice happy hour specials with cheap beer.
