This is not a place with cotton candy or rides but a great place to reflect back on historic times in a wonderfully peaceful setting overlooking the Maumee River in downtown Defiance, Ohio. It is an easy find off of US Route 24 in the NW Ohio area and commemorates one of the early outposts of the American movement westward. Many of the canons are still in place and there is no admission cost while walking around the upper and lower paths where the fort once stood. Studying the times of this outpost along with the career of General Anthony Wayne will easily allow you to see how this place was chosen as a lookout and outpost along the Indian trails of northern Ohio. You could easily stop here for a break to stretch your legs and do it in less than an hour but you could also take the time to share historical events with your home schooled children or especially those who have an interest in post Revolutionary War periods. Very casual and low key and you can easily come and go as your schedule allows. This is especially good idea for grandparents who can take their grandkids on an educational side trip and let them run off some energy and maybe even learn something about the early history of the USA. There could be alot of steps for some people to go down to walking area or up to the hill overlooking the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers which come together at this point.
