Nice Lake County Metropark. Relatively easy hiking trails. Great gorgre and nice waterfall. Drawback is that its size is limited. Holden Arboretum close by much larger space.

Lots of trails, great staff. Very educational both geographically and historical. Excellent wildlife rehabilitation center and many special events. Everyone needs to hike the gorge and ride the trains.

Beautiful fall scenery, variety of animals and closer to us than Cleveland Zoo- great way to spend an hour or two with the kids. Best part was 1.99 geodes from the nature store, all 6 kids spent all evening cracking open to find their 'diamonds' - Quartz of course, but great learning experience!

A little jewel for Northeast Ohio, this park is really worth a visit. It has a nice visitors center, small marshland area and a nice trail that is manageable for the younger kids. There is a wildlife rehab center that benefits orphaned and injured animals and some can be viewed. However, these wonderful people try to release the animals back to the wild whenever possible. A small group if train enthusiasts have a miniature train that runs occasionally. Nearby is Lake Farm Park so even though Penitentiary Glen is smaller, a visit to Lake Farm Park (which does have an admission fee) can fill the day.

This place is one that is allowed for wild animal rehab and has a selection of birds and animals the delight visitors young and old. The nature center always has some displays and activities that interesdt everyone - very seldom crowded and always fun.

Excellent park part of Lake Metroparks in southern Lake County that offers well-maintained trails, grounds, picnic areas and shelters. There is also a nature center good for kids and a wildlife center that rehabilitates animals hurt by humans (e.g. vehicular strikes, attacks by pets).Trails are wide, well-maintained and constructed, popular with trail runners. Snowshoeing is popular here in winter months.There's even a little kiddie railroad run by a local rail enthusiast group.Today, we were here to tender a poor baby groundhog our beagle got a hold of in our backyard but didn't quite kill. The weak animal survived the night so we brought him here to the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center. The intake staff were very kind and professional, accepting the little guy with a short interview process. They even gave us an ID code so that we may track his recovery process. We know he's in safe hands and if he has any chance of survival it'll be here.NOTE: They don't rescue all animals due to state laws prohibiting intake of deer, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, and muted swans. But they do a great job rehabilitating squirrels, rabbits, and birds releasing those who aren't human-imprinted back into the wild.A truly noble cause in a world where wildlife continues to bear the brunt of continued human expansion.

We are actually up at penitentiary Glenn once a week because rarely do you encounter another walker or jogger. Trails are empty and clean and it's always a treat to walk down to sit by the gorge. Our favorite part would be the birds. Children and adults alike love the bald eagle (and dilbert when he was still there). If you go inside the wildlife center, there is always a staff member willing to answer any question about any f the birds.

A chance to see different injured critters rotating in and out. It was rare to see the eagle up close. They are big birds. The kids always enjoy visiting. The indoor nature center also has rotating displays, plus a chance to buy a cool beverage and a snack.

My husband and walked our dog, Lexie, at Penitentiary Glen yesterday evening. While walking, we commented on how enjoyable it isto walk there. We encountered less than six other people walking. It is a very peaceful place. There are seven trails with varied surroundings. When you hike along the gorge trail, you are surrounded by hemlocks and shade with the sound of the water falling and rushing through the gorge. There is a meadow area hike that leads to an amazingly quiet pond with a sizeable deck for sunning and "pond"-ering! It's truly inspiring. We also like the meadow hike near the pond located by the visitor's center. Each time we walk there we see some pond life: turtles, geese, wood ducks, mallards, frogs, etc. We are truly blessed to have this hidden gem located five minutes from our home! Check their website for many additional offerings. They periodically offer a wonderful train ride for children (and adults), check calendar for dates and arrive early. We attended one of their astronomy nights and were able to view the stars through some awesome telescopes!

This is park of the Lake County Metro Parks. This wildlife center is a must visit for you families. They have a aviary rescue center where you can view owls hawks, falcons and sometimes eagles. It is part of a much large park system with all kinds of great things to do. This is a great place to take the family for the day.
