Interesting, unique place to visit. The history is even more interesting. Go at night and feel like you are being haunted. Reasonable admission and always meet some unusual people while visiting. I've been going here since I was a young girl. Each trip is more fun than the last.
This is a must see if you are in the Loveland area. It is a great local handmade landmark. While this is not the caste of your dreams it will make you envy what one man can do with handmade concrete stones. A great 1-2 hour tour of your own will take you back to childhood memories of wanting to build a castle like this with you and your friends.
When you are talking about a Castle how can you go wrong? nice place to go with the family if in the area this is a must see stop
wanted to go on a scenic trip to see and enjoy some history cheap price for admission 5.oo per adult and 3 .00 for kids the trip down was great and towards the end of the drive the road gets very steep and winds down the hill around a little mountain as u come to the end of the drive u see from a little distance the river and a firepit and some trails -then off to the right on a steep of a hill u see the castle upon entry they give u some history and rest is self guided by they answer questions and they are "sirs"/"knights" they have kept the tradition within the knighthood. it is amazing the story behind this structure and the milk cartons and oj containers he used to build the castle himself went to jungle jims from there it was a nice trip the castle took about 3 hours because the dungeon upstairs and the grounds wonderful attraction
Maybe others knew, but I sure didn't know there was a castle in Cincy. Folks - let's keep our expectations realistic - it's $5 bucks to enter and it's in Cincy--not Ireland or Wales or France. So after my disclaimer, I would say it was fun! If you like castles, it's a good fun hour. That's as much time that I would really spend. I did watch the video of how the castle was built. And, that was amazing. Pretty much the whole castle was built by one man. One man. He carried stones from the small Miami River and built the castle one stone at a time and also made his own cement bricks in milk cartons. After people found out what he was doing, they would bring him stones from all over the world, which he added to the walls. He also developed a group called "Knights of the Golden Trail". Even if you are semi-interested in castles, what this man did was amazing and worthy of $5 bucks.
I have been going to the castle since I was a little girl - even had the opportunity to meet Harry Andrews before he passed. It is a lovely castle, fun to explore and a great story to go with it. It does not rival the castles of Europe, from which it drew inspiration, but to think that a man built this from river stone and concrete poured into milk cartons is amazing. Kids love to go through the castle and imagine what it might have been like to live in a castle.
I was driving through the area and remembered reading about the castle, so I stopped. Overall, it was really intriguing. The original owner built the structure by hand, with both rocks carried up from the riverbed and hand- molded cement blocks. The architecture is unique and quirky with random room, stairways and halls. There is an eclectic decorating scheme that seems to include "anything castle or knights" and other random things. The grounds were well-kept and would have been lovely to see blooming in the springtime. One caution: don't mess with the "castle guard!" The man who takes your entrance fee seems to have a rather short temper towards some people. Thankful I was not on the receiving end, but I overheard part of his tirade. Also, bring cash for entrance.
Lived in the area for years and always heard of this place, decided to check it out. Interesting place, enjoyed seeing Sir Andrews documents & photos that are on the wall. Pretty cool that this man built this by him self. You can see everything in an hour or less, wasn't crowded when it opened but it was such a beautiful day more and more were coming in when we left. It does have a picnic table where people had brought fast food to eat outside. Porta potties on site. $5 fee
This is a small castle, pretty cool to walk around for an hour or so and take some fun pictures. For $5 apiece, the price is right... BUT... The place is about 90% to the way to being a really great attraction. It is unfinished, with plywood floors and displays all around that just make no sense, some are very nice, some are very tacky. There are empty display cases and home built junk. There was a vaccuum cleaning in one of the displays and a roll of garbage bags in another. They throw their trash all over the place. Their "dungeon" had no torture devices. The roof had no access...This place is cool, I just wish they cared for it a little better by at least picking up their own garbage instead of putting it all willy nilly.
I was looking for attractions in Cincinnati apart from museum and zoo and i found this beautiful castle on River bank in a beautiful lush green location. This is not a place for you if you are expecting a huge castle with lots of history in it. Its a place to spend some time with your loved ones and a getaway from busy schedule.
Looking for something out of the ordinary locally and found this castle. We found this to be very interesting. Gentleman at the desk gave some history and informed us of the video that was showing of the work involved in building the castle. We took about an hour to go through. For the small fee, we really enjoyed it. There are steps, 4 levels total. Not a problem for us, but it might be for others.
i would have to say, my children and i had been very anxious and excited to see the castle every since we had heard about it. We finally planned a day and drove an hour to see it. We were greated by a guy that just seemed "off" somehow and after he gave us the history on it and paying a small fee we were free to roam the place. Majority of it was off limits and locked up, we literally toured what was available in less than 5 minutes. Dont get me wrong, the place and history was very interesting but had i known how it was going to be upon arrival i never would have wasted my time or money. I viewed more of the place by pictures online then i was able to see there. Im only writing this in hopes of saving somebody else the time and money it cost just to be dissatisfied and disappointed the way we were. It was way more fascinating online
We took our daughter and extended family. I was thinking there would be more to the experience. The history behind the castle was interesting, but I would have not paid to go had I known there was so little to do. Still, there were several other families and adults enjoying themselves and the people working seemed knowledgeable. Nothing for small children. Boring for anyone under 10.
we took this trip down toward cinny, oh. so i wanted to stop to see this. it is suprizing what one man can do just out of love for what he is doing.the Castle tour is self guided but there are people there if you have questions. the dungon was the best part. a great place to stop and visit.
This castle is truly an amazing story of one man's accomplishments. The history & story behind this unique creation is fascinating. Ran totally by volunteers of "The Knights of the Golden Trail."The volunteer was very informative and helpful. The castle is left just like the day the owner willed it over. May authentic items and pictures are there to tell the story. Make sure you climb down to the cellar and up to the second floor. Don't miss the grounds are garden.Perfect place for special occasions pictures too.
