Very pretty and peaceful. Clean, quiet, and very nice for the family. Nice to have the "bird blind" to observe birds!

We have been going to the Mt. Gilead State Park since we've lived in the area. Even though it's not huge (181 acres), all the attractions are basically within walking distance to one another---you don't have to drive to a far off end of the park. Parking on the south side gives you access to a large lake for fishing. The shore has a few park benches and plenty of parking. Farther up, along St. Rt. 95, you can rent pavilions for your reunion or family bbq, or rent a spot for your camper and spend the weekend. For our family, though, the trails are the true draw. Our young boys LOVE hiking the series of trails through the woods. The terrain is often hilly, overlooking wooded ravines and deep draws through the middle of the forest. The south side trails run parallel to the lake, far far above the water. Looking down on it is beautiful. Most of the trails allow for horseback riding and the horse tracks are clearly evident as you walk.Other trails parallel a small river that runs through the east end of town. It is shallow enough in for kids to walk through and explore, but deep enough in spots for decent river fishing. I would rate the park higher if it had some better recreational opportunities and equipment for kids, but if you're in the area, it's worth a stop. It's really convenient being able to walk to all of those different options without moving your car.

Just a short drive from northeast Ohio, this state park is in need of a little trail maintenance probably due to the heavy spring rains. The trails are mostly under cover of dense canopy of trees. There are several different trails with some natural stairs, boardwalk and muddy trails.

Nice park overlooking the water, playground for children, pavilion for picnics. Small nature center on premises, but crowded so did not go in.

This is a small state park surrounding a small lake and stream. There is a camping facility with electricity and sanitary facilities. I would guess about 25 trailers could stay there at any given time. Trails to hike, fish to catch (small panfish), playground for kids, very pretty in the fall. Great for a weekend stop.

They have an applebutter festival in the fall that the kids love. There are camping lots and a lake in the middle. Kids always enjoy a visit.

This park is quite small, but nice and quiet. There are several trails to walk on and a dam. Other than tha, nothing else.

Lots of hiking trails around a beautiful lake. Horse trails also!

I had no idea there was a state park in Mt Gilead. I met my family, who lives in Delaware Ohio in Mt Gilead, because it is a 1/2 point for us. I live in Mansfield, Ohio. What a wonderful surprise. There are trails, picnic shelters and plenty of picnic tables. Several playgrounds for the children to enjoy. We had the best time with the Disc (frisbee) golf course. It started to rain so there was a McDonalds right down the street where we enjoyed a ice cream.
