Check out the cross country ski trails this winter. Good base and several miles to exercise. You won't be sorry you stopped by.
We went to Punderson State Park for our friends daughter's wedding. It was in October so it was extra beautiful will all the leaves turning. The Maple room where the reception was held was so elegant and the food was the best we have had in long time.
Had the Sunday Brunch a couple times the food was less than average tasting and poor service. I went a 3rd time and once again was disappointed.
We went here for the first time to attend a geocaching event. I was very surprised at how big this park is and how much there is to do. There are hiking trails, tennis courts, a disc golf course, sledding hills, archery - you name it! We got to enjoy some of the fall colors, so it was extra nice. While we didn't get to see much of the lodge, we did walk on the new boardwalk, which is quite nice. The park may seem a bit remote, but it was definitely worth the drive and I would love to visit again and try some of the activities.
We had a great first time tent camping experience with the family (2 adults, 2 kids). The camp site is clean, ample space for two tents (we could have fit a third). Ladies restroom was pretty clean for a campground, and where we were situated there were two bathrooms w/ one shower house close to our site. We were expecting a party atmosphere, as it was a Saturday night, but were surprised that many campers seemed to wind down around 10pm or so. I'm sure being later in the season, many of the young teens/adults are back to school, etc. The scenery is beautiful, gorgeous lake, archery area, nature trails seem to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. We didn't take advantage of the amenties, but look forward to coming back again soon!
Great Ohio State Park with alot to do and very nice, cozy, scenic accomodations. I have stayed twice in the manor/lodge and have enjoyed both times.
As an infrequent camper, this state park is lovely and seems to offer it all, from swimming, hiking and golf to spooky ghost stories at night at the manor. While the cabins could have been much cleaner and we were not permitted to swim in the water at the beach, the thing that mostly bugged me was the bugs! I had to battle many, many bites after repeated applications of bug spray.Otherwise, the experience was a wonderful, fun-filled one. My children will have many happy memories of Punderson!
Stayed at the campground. It was very nice! Restrooms were clean and so were the shower houses. Camp store was small but convenient. They sell firewood for $4 a bundle and ice for $2 a bag. Our site was great. There was ALOT of poison ivy at the site tho, it bordered the whole site perimeter and was very thick. Not good for when you have younger kids with you. Bugs weren't too bad, but bring lots of mosquito supplies & spray. Beach was nice, peaceful, and clean, but the water was a little on the gross side because of all the algae build up. Found a nice dock near the beach to go fishing from, it had a great view of Punderson Manor. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Punderson, it is a nice state park!
Punderson offers everything you need for a great camping trip or outdoors visit. We live just a few miles away and visit the park several times a month. I love to ride my mountain bike on the trails and we also have several family hikes on the trails and enjoy searching for the geocaches in the park.We have used the pool and rented boats and kayaks. We have a family reunion there next month.
This is a very beautiful park. We did the primitive camping and our "neighbors" were very friendly. Besides the fact that we were camping on the edge of misquote vile and raccoon city, the experience was wonderful. The check in station is also a little store that has very reasonable prices and everybody was friendly. They sell sonic anti-bug sound devices that work better then the bug spray, but you will still need anti-bug candles and/or torches. As for the raccoons, you need to either put you food in your vehicle over night, or buy pure amounoia and put a little in a empty, clean soup can with a rag. Then put a few of those cans around your camp site every so many feet. The raccoons don't like the smell and will usually stay away.As for the fishing, well, regular worms work the best because the whole lake is over run with bluegill. Second to that species is small perch. It is really hard to catch the rest because of the bluegill and because people don't catch and release, they catch and keep. But overall we had a very good experience, and there is a chance that we will go back.
this was out first time having dinner at Punderson, the view was breath taking! our waitress was was very friendly and did everything she could to make our evening out very special for us. she gave great recommendations for food to try, i had the pistachio chicken, and my husband had the portabella pasta, we both enjoyed the food she recommended as her favorites, the rolls and butters that came with the meal were also very good. my favorite part of the meal was when she brought out the dessert tray, we ended up splitting the oreo cheesecake, delicious! i would defiantly recommend people to visit this little gem in geauga county
We recently rented a cabin for a mini "stay"cation. Just a quick getaway. We stayed in cabin 13 which is nicely located. Great view of the lake and easy to walk to the manor. The cabin was spotless and very large. All of the applicance worked fine and were clean. The cabin had two bedrooms: one with a queen bed and the other with 2 sets of bunkbeds. Everything felt fresh and clean. The sheets are a little stiff, so you might want to pack your own. All of the window fixtures worked (shades, locks, etc) and the patio was spotless. It was nice to see a recycle container. Outside, the cabin was located directly in front of the playground, so the kids could play. Very clean (just one rotten hot dog we thought was Yeti pooh). One thing I didn't like were the number of cigarette butts on the ground. Appreciate no smoking in the cabins, but d@mn smokers, pick up your trash. The grounds of the park are really nice. The trails range from easy to kinda challenging. The ground was a little muddy, but we had prepared with bringing boots. They are doing some construction and are burning wood in a few clearings. It smells really nice and the huge bonfires are awesome to see. The pool was warm and clean. The locker room was clean and well appointed with lockers. My ONLY complaint is the restaurant. The first night there, we didn't feel like cooking, so we ate at the manor. Big mistake. Ordered the cracker crusted walleye: a giant, bland, light beige fish stick. Green beans were undercooked and cold. The pistachio chicken: giant, bland, light beige chicken patty. No taste. Literally, no taste. A pound of salt and some ranch dressing fixed it up, but so not good. We ordered the brownie bomb sundae (described as a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream, oreo bits, chocolate sauce and whipped cream) and it was a chuck of frozen icey (meaning old) chocoate ice cream with brownies mixed in. NOTHING like the description. Just awful and embarassing for them to even serve. I highly recommend staying here, but please, whatever you do, bring your own food or drive the mile down Kinsman road to Mangia Mangia.
a great place to go sledding with the familybe sure to bundle up and maybe bring hot cocoa :)just a beautiful area
Beautiful autumn location! Detailed map. Well kept picnic areas. It was cold & blustery so we didn't get to hike as much as we would have liked. We did spend a wonderful amount of time worshiping around a cosy fire at one of the picnic sites. We are planning to return to check out the camping area and do some more hiking.
Very beautiful park open year round! We really enjoyed our visit there but would not recommend staying at the Lodge
