David is the grandson of Mooney Warther, probably the most skilled carver ever. David specializes in historic ships carved from ivory and ebony and is a master of his art. The ships are astoundly impressive and to scale. The museum itself is beautiful.

David has created ship replicas out of ivory, down to the tiniest detail. Research of each ship is posted next to each creation. Mr Warther comes out of his studio to visit with visitors and patiently explains the process used to make each ship, 80 ships dating as far back as 3000 BC. There are magnifying glasses next to each ship displayed so you can see each tiny detail. Wonderfully talented.artist and a magnificent display of ships shared for all to enjoy.

This trip was very educational. The carvings are excellently done and amazing to see. The ivory display and the explanation of each piece is also amazing.

Mr. Warther did in one lifetime that many of us would need three lifetimes to complete! The carvings this man created are so well thought out and detailed it's simply amazing!! Purchased two knives from the shop while we were here. Only downfall is the tour is two hours long, which needs to be a little shorter in "my" opinion but definitely worth a visit!

This museum house the collected works of David Warther who is producing the history of the ship in carved old ivory. We were fortunate to have David himself conduct the tour the day we visited -- two absolutely fascinating hours. Every piece of the ship is carved in ivory -- his stories of how he obtains legal ivory are very interesting, but the best feature is his demonstration of how he carves the ivory rigging for the ships. These threads are thickness of a human hair! The only down side is that no photographs are allowed in the galleries.

this is like no other stop in amish country...i think that's what made it so special... having the artist giving us a private tour was a delight and only added to our amazement...words cannot express the beauty and pain-staking detail and talent that is displayed...mr. warther's dedication to his craft is inspiring...beautiful gift shop also...highly recommend...

We visited with friends who were reluctant to pay for entrance into the museum. Moments after entering it was obvious that our attention was captured. Fortunately we were given a tour by the artist himself, David Warther. His desire to share with us made us feel so special...and our questions were answered untiringly. We saw the first models the artist made as a child...and his many adult models were absolutely captivating. My history buff husband found much to be interested in. We enjoyed seeing the tools he used in his shop. The mirrors which magnified the model ships as they revolved around gave us a close up view of his unbelievable intricate designs .The scales he used...the plans of these ships he obtained from around the world...tools he fashions to do do the job... Also he had a tiny wooden working replica of a steel mill. If you love beautiful things there is also a very nice gift shop. I found it moderately priced. Quite a variety of items ! This art was truly appreciated. Yes, it was well worth what we paid.Truly inspiring for your entire family .

This is a must to visit. The carvings are amazing, the story of the family is interesting, how they survived and managed to make history.

While in Holmes County, OH this past weekend, I discovered this museum of ivory ship models which contains the work of maritime artist, Mr. David Warther. Mr. Warther has personally carved, and has on display, 80 models of ships that represent the history of ships in the world from 3000 BC to the middle of the 20th century. The beautifully detailed scale ship models are based on Mr. Warther's personal research of the blueprints of the ships he has modeled. The museum is a well-run, privately operated, non-profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to preserve, promote and exhibit the artwork of Mr. Walther. The museum is located about five miles east of Walnut Creek on State Route 39. There is an elegant gift shop located in the museum building. Admission fees are $10 per adult and $9 for seniors. Mr. Walther's workshop is on the premises and he came out to greet us during the tour to demonstrate his artistic techniques and answer our questions.If you are looking for something out to the ordinary and worth a visit, I recommend you set aside one or two hours to visit and tour the museum. Any one with an interest in the maritime history of the world will enjoy this museum. Adults and high-school students are most likely to enjoy this attraction. Even if you are not particularly interested in maritime art, you will appreciate Mr. Warther's artictic skills and his loving dedication to his work.The museum is all on one level, so handicap access is not a problem. There is ample parking adjacent to the museum and an observation tower offering views of the surrounding countryside. This will not be my last visit to David Warther Carvings (www.warther.org).

Everything in here was a little over my budget price range, but I enjoyed looking around. I especially like seeing the antique pieces made by this company years ago. Very interesting.

I highly recommend going to this museum. The carvings are amazing and Mr. Warther is usually there to talk to visitors and show a bit of his technique. An absolutely one-of-a-kind museum!

the building is lovely and new and nicely air conditioned. His works are unbelievably beautiful. Very interesting with great stories and history.

We have been to this museum twice It is located betweenWalnut Creek & Sugar Creek, Ohio on Rt. 39. David Warther has carved over 80 ships out of ivory. Both times David Warther was present and came out and talked with the small tour group. His shop is located in the museum and is visible from one of the rooms. It was a very informative tip ad we will probably go back again. Attached is an excellent gift shop which can be accessed without paying to enter he museum.

We had the pleasure of having David Warther conduct our tour himself. His work with the ivory is absolutely amazing and his art in scrimshaw absolutely impeccable! His personality really made the experience come to life as he adds the history behind these wonderful sailing ships. It is a must see in Amish Country.

This place is amazing and the carver is a very personable man. Everyone is friendly here and I loved every minute of my visit. I've gone through two different times and both times were exceptional! If you're in Sugarcreek, OH please make sure you make this a priority!!!
