Saint Thomas Aquinas is but one of a surprising number of really impressive churches in Zanesville. The current building is not the original home of the parish, but developed along a unique and compelling storyline. Faced with a growing congregation, the pastor realized the present church would soon be inadequate, but was at a loss to find funds for a more suitable one. It happened that a local gentleman of Quaker descent and of some means told the pastor that he really would like to see another appropriate edifice raised to God. He was a little short of ready cash, but owned a parcel of land a few miles away blessed with a great deal of good building stone. The pastor was welcome to quarry whatever was needed. Presumably utilizing considerable local labor and craftsmanship, the church was quickly erected, dedicated, and consecrated. This all came to pass in the middle 1840's and the church has served the community well for all that time.Ben and Mrs. Too attended mass here two weeks ago and felt privileged to join the regular parish members in their ruggedly handsome temple.
I really liked this church very much. It was a beautiful building and a very good Mass. There was nothing to dislike.
Historic church in downtown Zanesville. Lots of history with this church and school which is across the street.
A beautiful Church with very friendly parishoners. Love seeing the Church decorated for the Christmas season.
This church was built by the Irish immigrants in the 1820's, cathedral style church. The stained glass windows are beautiful!
It is hard to believe that the workers of this town could raise enough money to build such a magnificent church more than a century ago. Whatever one's faith tradition you should stop in to see this magnificent church and to look at the wonderful detailing and to reflect upon the sacrifices that the parishoners made in order to build it.
St. Thomas Aquinas church is beautiful inside. I saw this facility with a college class when we were studying architecture. The old style of architecture gives the church its originality and makes it stand out.
We love our new parish! St. Thomas Aquinas is run by the Dominican order. It is extremely orthodox in teaching and the pastors are incredible preachers. Mass is offered twice daily and there is adoration on Fridays.
