A wonderful place for a short hike, great wildflowers, carefully maintained trails. A gem for the Dayton area.
Aullwood is not only in a beautiful, natural setting, with great walking trails and an authentic working farm from the 1850's, it has terrific programs for children, a great gift shop, and special events throughout the year. If you are in the Dayton area, be sure to spend the day there.
This place always has set the standard for excellence. I am pleased to see that wonderful new additions nestle alongside beloved favorite places. I only wish we had been able to participate in a program. Be sure to hike or drive around to the Farm, too.
What is not to love about hiking trails?! Get out of your car for a while & enjoy the nature & the hiking trails. Great day to get out if the house.
I admit, we could only see the visitor center. It was too cold on the day we went there to walk on the trails.
Get out of your car and then ask "What's not to love?" This farm and audubon center is about 340 acres and Aullwood and has six miles of hiking trails that pass through a number of different habitats including forest, prairie, marsh, ponds and over wooden bridges. The brochure indicates that Aullwood has an annual visitation of 80,000 and is today considered the premier Audubon Center in the United States. My favorite is the APPLE FESTIVAL and Amish Quilt auction in the fall. But they have endless array of programs for everyone. I think their main goal is to promote the protection of birds, other wildlife and the habitats on which they depend such as woods, streams, ponds, prairies and meadows. Bring the kids and get out of the car!!
I grew up going to Aullwood as did my children and I continue to stop even though my kids are grown up. There's something for everyone from bird watching to candle dipping to sugar bush walks. It's a great place to stop by any time of year!
Lovely nature preserve. Was the home, gardens and woods ofMrs. Aull for many, many years. The Spring is a good time to visit when the wildflowers are in bloom, but any time is a good time to stroll and enjoy nature.
I was expecting much more from all the advertisements. I farm did not have the organic food as promised in the brochures, the gardens were okay at best. I chose to arrive at the farm and hike the many trails to the Audubon Center, the trail was overgrown and spiderwebs everywhere. The staff was very friendly, I go hiking often when my husband and I travel, this one I would place at the bottom of my list, I will not return, Ohio has awesome park systems and hiking biking areas. I will go elsewhere
Aullwood is a wonderful way to reacquaint yourself with nature. Take a walk in the woods, visit the working farm, see the animals... They have some wonderful festivals (Farm Babies, Applefest, Butterfly Counts, Enchanted Forest at Halloween). There are also opportunities for people to volunteer.
Last year we attended the pancake breakfast with our 4 grandchildren! We then went to the farm for a tour, visited the animals and found the childrens "buckets" that had their names on them ...... to collect sap to make maple syrup. We also purchase maple syrup that was made at the farm! If you have never had an Aullwood Fresh Turkey for Thanksgiviing you are missing a treat!
This place is so lovely! We love going there and walking around. We take our Shih tzu's sometimes. Cant wait for the warm weather to come to enjoy this place.
My kids and I thoroughly enjoy walking and learning. This experience provided both ease and fun. Lots to learn in the center also.
I don't remember anything that I enjoyed or disliked. I just know it didn't have anything to offer that brought me back. Maybe a different time of year or during an event would have been better.
It was an extremely hot, dry summer, so not a lot of flowers blooming, but the trails were well maintained, and a very enjoyable walk through woods and meadows. Indoor displays were very interesting, and some peaceful sitting areas to relax and look out at birds. An added bonus was a quilt display throughout the building.
