My friend had her 62 birthday party there. It was a surprise party. I had never been there or heard of it. I went that morning to help set up. I was amazed. It is to me out in no mans land but very nice and well taken care of. Except for the wind it turned out to be a great day and the Birthday Girls (Twins) Surprised.
Great place for a family hike. Trails well marked. Hiked to the little farm area. Cute livestock. The kids enjoyed. Good parking lot and clean restrooms. It's a nice place to stretch your legs and get the kiddos a bit tired. I'd have no problem returning for another nice day.
Of all of the Dayton/Five Rivers Metroparks, this one is my favorite. There are three types of trails; prairie, woods, or pond. The fields have been seeded with native wildflowers and are absolutely wonderful (as it the butterfly population). There is a farm and several fishing ponds (which seemed to be stocked monthly during the summer). Close to the Dayton VAMC, this is a wonderful place to hike and unwind. Most weekdays you'll have the entire place to yourself. There are actually campsites (one Friday afternoon I found a Boy Scout troop camping). I just can't get enough of this park and try to hike there weekly.
This is one of the hidden treasures in the Dayton area. The park has the typical shelters and hiking trails. There are three stocked ponds for fishing. There are goats, sheep, a donkey, chickens and turkeys on the farm. There is a community garden if you are interested in something like that. The Argonne Forest was once an amusement park and parts of the old rides can be seen. This is truly a treasure that seems to go not noticed.
