The Toledo Rep Theatre is a sometimes forgotten jewel in downtown Toledo. Local talent, the quaint building, intimate seating all give us a pleasant evening or Sunday afternoon at the theater. Affordable, it is always a nice way to taste a little Broadway just a few miles down the road. Check out their upcoming events and sure you will find a performance that interests you. Give it a try.
Established love for theater in every ounce of this building.. Nothing clinical, nothing corporate , The venue isn't the best, but the real view is the plays right ?So, put this on your list of must do's you'll come back over and over
Entertaining, Affordable, Charming. Gives one something to do on hot humid evenings and show times should fit everyone s schedule.
This is a wonderful, intimate spot to watch quality productions. We attended a presentation of Moonglow, which was written from the perspective of a woman who had to come to terms with her mother's debilitating dimentia. The play portrayed the struggle that revolved around the difficult decision to place her mother in a long term care facility due to the pernicious progression of her Alzheimer's Disease. The portrayal was humorous in dealing with some of the interactions in the facility yet very poignant at the same time. The story was based on the playwright's actual life experience and was brilliantly interpreted in the form of a reader's theater by a superb cast and production staff. The approach they took was terrific as it emphasized the dialog and freed the audience of distraction from the physical motions that would have gone with a conventional production. The venue was wonderful as this historic theater provided a great ambiance that enhanced the enjoyment of the production. If you enjoy a night out at the theater, I would highly recommend taking in a production at the Rep.
Last Saturday, my family and I surprised my husband on his milestone birthday by taking him to Toledo, the city of his birth, for the weekend. I arranged to take him to some of his favorite places, and since all ten of us (two daughters, their husbands, and four grandchildren) love musicals, I searched for a performance to attend that night.Fortunately, the Toledo Repertoire Theater popped up, and low and behold, they were doing a production of "The Drowsy Chaperone"---one of his favorite shows. We go to NY often to see musicals, so I was rather skeptical of a community theater production. But I called the box office and spoke to a wonderful woman named Kathy to find out more about the theater and getting seats together for the show. She graciously talked to me about the quality of their productions and even helped me with hotel and restaurant suggestions for a city I am completely unfamiliar with. So, I purchased tickets, hoping it would be at least ok.Let me just say that this production far exceeded my expectations and then some! The theater is small, so it's easy to connect with whats happening onstage. And what happened on that stage that night was magical. The cast was consistently fabulous, the choreography great, and the directing so precise and creative that we all sat mesmerized enjoying the show. From the live orchestra to the costumes, set design, sound design and lighting design, everything was terrific. We had seen this show on Broadway with the original cast twice, and once in a semi-professional production. But we were so impressed with The Toledo Repertoire Theatre's production that I feel compelled to urge others who are looking for high quality theater in Toledo to take advantage of this local treasure.
