I went for a night and had a lot of fun! We got in at noon and were able to check in right away. We went to Meijer's first to get some groceries which I would highly recommend because the food there is slightly overpriced. Our room was ready right away which was a huge plus since we were four hours early. We had a lot of fun at the park itself! Around four we went to the room to eat and take a rest. When we pulled back the sheets the sheets were all wrinkled and had crumbs all over them. It was gross. Someone came up right away to change them and didn't give us any problems. So while that was really gross, they fixed it for is right away so I wasn't too upset. After a short nap we went back to the park, swam, ate dinner, and came back for bed. This is when I had the biggest problem. I hadn't noticed it much before, but the bed was AWFUL! It was like sleeping on cardboard. I kept waking up in the middle of the night with my back aching. It was almost not worth staying there. Overall I had a good time, but I would recommend staying at another hotel close by and just getting a day pass.

We are actually hear now. There are less than a handful of things for kids over say.....eight...to do. Adults will be bored to death. Sorry. No regular pool. Wave poolis small and mostly under 3' deep. Good luck getting in the hot tub. 50 at a time. I never saw 50 in it but the line to get in was consistently at least 20 deep waiting. Room..might as well have no door. No soundproofing at all. Heard every word from hall and neighbor.Check in...due to amount of people in line to buy day passes...20-30 minutes to check in. Parking out front...none. lot was filled to capacity. Can't wait to see how many are overnight guests vs day passes.Food in water park area was actually good but of course very pricey but I expected that. All in all 8 yr old likes it. 13 yr old said its ok.

We went here as our second choice since Kalahari was sold out at the time. We called ahead and they said there was still day passes available. When we got there we saw a big sign saying they were sold out. We decided to wait out the long check in line (10-15 minutes) and take a chance they would still be available. They did have day passes still available so not sure why the sign said otherwise. For the price we paid compared to Kalahari I would say its worth it, if we paid the Kalahari price I would say we got ripped off. The parking was terrible (went there Saturday afternoon). I had to take a chance and park somewhere and hope my car would be there when we were done. Luckfully it was still there, and no ticket. My 4 year old son had a blast, it would have been more fun if I went with my wife so we could take turns riding the big-boy rides instead of the kiddy rides all the time. The lines weren't too bad except for the hottub it took about 15 minutes to get into that. The place was pretty clean, lots of fresh towels available to use. We didn't eat or drink anything so cant judge the food or prices. I would say any kid would love going there, I didn't see a single kid in there not having a good time. You cant go wrong picking this place!

My husband and I visited castaway Bay in October. We didn't go into waterpark, we went to Halloweekends. The hotel staff wasn't helpful, nearly rude. We ate breakfast at the restaurant and it wasn't worth the money. We would go elsewhere for breakfast, even if it was free at Castaway bay. The rooms are outdated and the walls are thin. I only liked the provided toiletries, Bath & body works brand. We'll never stay there again.

Where else do you go on a frosty day off from school ( snow day= too cold). While there was a line at check in @ 4:00 you were able to go early to enjoy the waterpark and have them text you when your room is ready. Our room wasnt ready when i checked in and they gave us free breakfast coupons for the next day. The buffet was awesome! Very clean, food nice and hot and well stocked. Service was great. The temperature in the lobby was super cold from the doors opening and closing. A few ceiling heaters by the doors would have been nice. Not a ton of places to hang out and wait, but there is a big fireplace and some seats if you need them . Our room was nothing spectacular. Its definitely an older park. Not spotless but nothing disgusting. Our family really enjoyed the waterpark. Ages 9-12, it was just the right size for us. Not too big and not too cold! Water temp was great, room temp in the park was comfortable. Pineapple pipeline wasnt open due to lack of guards on duty and the big water coaster shut down for a few hours until another guard showed up. Those on duty were constantly moving around and checking the areas. Outdoor hot tub was a hit as was the wave pool. Snack shack has typical pool food and was a bit understaffed for lunch time. We chose to eat dinner at a nearby restaurant Danny Boys. Awesome pizza, pasta and service. While we didnt get a groupon or special rate, i felt that this was a perfect one night getaway for our family. Saturday we stayed past checkout and the park was at capacity for day passes. Everyone still had a great time! Only disappointment was the arcade went "green" and you have to use a card for tokens. This wasnt fun to share between 3 kids as they all liked different games. They do have a camp castaway and a few other activities planned throughout the day that we didnt get around to doing.

Took my family of 8 this weekend. We went there last year and loved it. After this last experience I will not be back. Our room was very dirty, couch had stain on it and had not been vacuumed. The waterpark shower/dressig smelled like urine so bad I could not stomach it! Also towels , trash and dirty diapers throughout shower and dressing room. Our room had a pull out couch with no sheets, it took 3 calls and an hour later to get pillows and sheets. I will not be going back! Gross!

Well the water was cold .the store was closed because they were shy handed TGI Fridays is no longer there was planning on eating there the restaurant that was open was only open at night and was a buffet it was awful, the little snack bar was 14.39 for a blt and small pop they charged me 2.50 room service charge although I ordered and picked it up. As for Waterpark it was cold water and two of the slides were down room was clean and nice not worth more than 100.00 a night

I reserved a week at this particular hotel. It was very accommodating and had very polite staff. I reserved 2 rooms that where handicap accessible. Both were very clean and where in-deed very accessible. We went to the water park in side after a long day at Cedar Point. We were very happy to find the outdoor spa which was very warm. It was also nice to know that an adult must accompany a child to the spa. That made most of the adults in the park very happy! The indoor park was very clean with an unlimited amount of towel. The temperature inside was around 80 degrees.

We needed a break from all the cold weather of 2015, so I researched all the waterpark resorts in our area and Castaway Bay in Sandusky won out. They had availability during Valentines Day weekend for two nights and the price was very budget friendly compared to others in the area. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews here on TA, but my main concern was the water temperature at the park. The reviews on TA convinced me that their water was actually warm, so I booked it. Here is my review: Parking: Free and plentifulCheck-in: We arrived at 4:48 pm, I had only one family in front of me in line, my room was ready, the receptionist was nice, and check in was 99% headache free. One thing I noticed at check in, the check-in receptionist was answering phone calls while checking me in. I feel that this resort should hire a call taker so as not to tie up their front desk staff; but I was still satisfied with my check-in and we were off to room 160 on the first floor. Note:; the hallways were warm!!!The Starfish Room: We were satisfied upon arrival because the heat was on and the room was very comfortable. The room was clean, there TV was a large flat screen, the mini-frig was working, and there was a small microwave on top. In the closet was a room safe that was easy to operate with any 4 digit code that you select. The beds and pillows were clean and nice. I am not complaining about the beds, but if I were running the place, I would have installed queen size beds in the rooms instead of full size beds. The bathroom was clean, however, I did notice a smudge or scuff mark possibly left by a shoe on the side of the tub. It made me wonder why those responsible for cleaning the place didn't notice it and remove it. I hoped that during our stay, it would be removed by our room attendant, but that did not happen. So I thought, maybe it was permanently embedded into the vinyl forever. Well, Sunday before we checked out, I removed it with a damp cloth and vigorous rubbing. One thing about the bathroom that bothered me, the door did not close to lock without pushing in the door knob to force the latch to lock into the latch hole in the frame. Without giving it a push, the door would glide halfway open. But overall I give the room a 9 out of 10 rating for cleanliness and use...but remember it was warm!!!Waterpark area: SUCCESS!!!! Take my word, the water is WARM, the air temperature in the park is WARM!!! I was happy that we were all warm there in the waterpark. I would recommend that you stay out of the hot tub until you are ready to leave the waterpark area and return to your room. This is because the water temperature is so warm there that if you then go back into the wave pool the water will then feel much colder. This waterpark is great for toddlers, my daughter is two and loved it. I think bigger teenagers will get bored there. The park was not crowed during our stay, it was very comfortable getting around. We did have to hunt for a chair, but found a vacant one each time. Towels were plentiful and available inside the entrance to the waterpark. For families with toddlers, I give this waterpark a 100%. Game Room: Since our daughter is only two, we really didn't spend much time in the game room. We did walk through it and it seemed like the kids there were having a really good time. The Snack Shop in the lobby: This place was loaded with everything you might have forgotten to bring. There were also reasonably priced souvenirs, ice cream, beer, soda, candy etc. Souvenir Shop: This was across from the Shack Shop. They have t-shirts, swim gear, jewelry etc. The prices weren't bad.Mango Mike's Restaurant: Well, although the price was not that bad for a buffet, the food was not good. I tried to sample everything so that I could write a complete review. The items on the buffet that I sampled are as follows: Baked Chicken: sorry but it was very dry and simply horrible. It was boneless and flat like it was pressed.Breaded Chicken: same as above, dry and horrible.Stuffed Cabbage: Ok, so they weren't horrible but were too flavorless to really enjoy. Don't fire the cooks, just find someone with a grandmother that will visit the kitchen and show them how to season the meat stuffed into the cabbage. Figure out this problem and I am sure the food reviews will increase. The Au Gratin potatoes: same as the stuffed cabbage, has potential but didn't hit the mark.Salad Bar: Not much salad to pick from, so I just tried the potatoe salad and tuna salad there. Finally something good. Mini Corn Dogs: Our daughter did not like them. She said, "Yeck" and through it down.Macaroni & Cheese: Horrible orange melted plastic!!! Please, call me and I will come there and show you how to make Mac & Cheese.Something positive: The drinks are included in the prices and refills are too. And the staff there are very attentive and nice.Ok, to sum things up....my review was based on staying at Castaway Bay during a cold weather weekend only. I will say, it was WARM and exactly what we were looking for to beat the cold. We will not only stay there again, but we are considering making this a annual trip during the same time in February. But next time we'll bring our own food and actually use the microwave in the room.I won't load any photos here because there are already good photos on TA and at the website for Castaway Bay.Email me if you have any questions.

I was at this resort over the weekend and the air and water temperature in the water park were so cold that it made the whole experience miserable. Would not come here again for that reason alone

Lots of fun for teens and younger children alike, great way to end your day after cedar point. Gives you an hour early admission to park.Lots to occupy the kids when you had enough of rollercoasters. Stayed about 4/5 times. Not an upscale hotel, nothing fancy but great for family fun.

Castaway Bay makes for a great day trip when the kids are off school. While it isn't the largest water park in Sandusky, it is a great value when you have Cedar Point season passes at $15/ticket. The water park is very clean and there is definitely enough to do...slides, wave pool, play equipment. Since it isn't huge, the kids can play in different areas and it is manageable.

This was a great option, to keep the kids busy and active. The age and quality of this hotel is VERY dated and not so pleasant.

Nice place to stay when going to cedar point. Waterpark smaller than expected. Still very nice but if you want to go to a waterpark with a hotel, Kalahari is the way to go. If you are looking for a close nice place to stay next to cedar point, this is the place for you. Look for the cedar point deal packages.

We have stayed at Castaway Bay several times and the children love it. We stayed in the Manatee Suite. Plenty of room for our family. Hotel and Water Park are both very clean. Especially nice to come back to after a day at Cedar Point.
