I made the drive to this because of the historical significance but was somewhat disappointed. Maybe it was there, but I could not find the proper place to park and observe it or any interpretive information about it. If you want to see a bit more of the Fort besides the historical area, it is a good way to do that on the drive here. Otherwise, if you are short on time, just pass on this.
Pretty spot on the Ft. Sill military reservation, definite point of interest for the history buff. We were surprised to find a small zoo of native wildlife.Did not rate it any higher because while it is an interesting site, it doesn't take more than 30 minutes or so to see it all, and there are more spectacular sites in the Wichita Mountains not far away.
Stopped there on a cold winter day. Awesome site. Big part of Western history. Very interesting geology in this part of Oklahoma.
I've repelled off of this Bluff. I don't think it's allowed anymore but just to see the cliff from below is amazing. Previous review was spot on about it not being maintained so be careful. Also Geronimo's grave is not far from this site and is in a pretty amazing old cementary. You must stop in if you are this close.
Love the area and what the people are trying to create
U can stand on the hill & see several lakes below, they have interesting places to shop, interesting places to site see & almost all the actractions do not cost admission & the food is outstanding & the people are nice
We were in the Army at Ft. Sill and lived in Lawton for 7 years. There is so much to do in this area: Wildlife Refuge, Lake Lawtonka, the museums on Ft. Sill, the tar pits, the bluffs. Very fun and affordable.
There are places on earth that, for one reason or another, evoke of sense of spiritual awareness, calmness and peace. Medicine Bluff is one of those for me. When I drive up the the bluff I am struck by the hugness of this shear rock face but as I walk down to the water at the base I get the feeling spiritual connectedness. While I have been several times I have a desire to go with my lawn chair and and just sit for a few hours. The site has special meaning for American Indians and I can partially understand why. While it would not be a place for everyone to visit, if you like taking a few moments to commune and connect with nature I believe this would be a place for you. When you enter Fort Sill just ask for a map and directions. If you go, post a response to see how Medicine Bluff affects you, or not. I would not advise this site for handicaped visitors as the site it not maintained and the paths and stairs are in very rough shape.
