We were looking for a rock show that wasn't happening, and we stumbled across the Thunder Island brewing Company. So glad we did! I enjoyed the Belgian blonde, but settled on the Scotch Porter. Really tasty brew! I also had the delicious Northwestern salad with baby greens, cranberries, hazelnuts, and blue cheese. The service was friendly, and having a cold brew on a hot summer day next to the Columbia River was awesome! Highly recommended!
After an incredible 25 mile ride through the gorge, we stopped right on the river at Thunder Island, where owner Dave welcomed us to Cascade Locks with a smile and a delicious pint. He can talk endlessly about craft beer, and even had some amazing cider on guest tap. It's friendly, cozy, and watching the sunset sizzle over the Columbia River with a brew in hand was the perfect way to end the day.
This place is about as good as it gets. After a beautiful bike ride along the Historic HIghway State Trail, we found this gem of a brewery located down at the Cascade Locks Marine Park. Dan and Dave make some fantastic beer and were delighted to show us around their brewery. Drinking ciders around a campfire before exploring the island by bike was icing on the cake.Highly recommended. Thanks Dave!
It was a bit difficult to find the brewery, pay attention to the small white signs close to the ground and pointing the way. This is obviously a transitional location -- it is functional and clean -- but created more for a machine shop than a brewery. Dan and Dave have made good use of the space and love their hops! I asked a few questions and got an education in craft beer.
Wonderful craft beer, new business and they are working crazy to get the food things going, right now food is only snacks, but eventually they will have meals.
Stopped in today for a quick pint. Really good beer (I had the Mosaic Pale Ale). I was offered a tour of the brewery. As a homebrewer, I enjoyed hearing the what and why of their ingredients choices.
Located right on the Columbia River overlooking their name sake, Thunder Island, the view couldn't get much better. The place just opened up two months ago so we were fortunate to meet both the owners Dave and Dan. You couldn't get two more friendly and passionate about beer than these two guys. As we were trying their Scotch Porter (made with a bottle of Scotch in each batch!), IPA, Pale Ale, and IRA we asked Dan about the hops they used in the beers. He not only talked in detail about them, but raised the bar on the nerdiness level and brought out a whole book on hops to further educate us. So cool. Dave gave us a small tour of the place, they're just starting out so its not that big, and talked about how they got started. Turns out they're upgrading their operation soon and will begin pumping out more beer starting this spring. I highly, highly recommend going to Thunder Island Brewery. We also walked away with one of their 40oz vacuum sealed thermos full of IRA. Totally worth it. I still had some left the next evening and forgot to put it in the fridge. The beer was not only still cold, but still bubbly. Awesome beer. Awesome people. Awesome goodies. GO.
