Fall may not be best time for ample water coming over these falls. Not as impressive as Koosah and Sahalie down the road. Very pretty area and worth stop and the hike.

Proxy Falls..! An unexpected treat. An easy hike on a well marked relatively easy trail. Parking and signs at the trail head.

Very nice loop hike with great views of the two Proxy Falls. It's a short 1.25 mile walk through a small lava flow that has many plants and trees. This area is where the lava land changes to forest land and there is some old growth conifers. Right now in mid October, the vine maples are bright red so this is a good time to go. We spent about 90 minutes with our pup on the trail and had a nice lunch just east of the trail at the Alder Springs picnic area and trailhead.

These falls are definitely worth the hike. The trip up passes through ferns and moss and gorgeous pines. Words cannot begin to do justice to the beauty of these falls. Make sure you see them both!

We took the family to Proxy Falls off of Hwy 242 outside of Sisters today and it was a great hike! It's roughly 4.5 miles round trip, and you get to see a great selection of Oregon scenery! You park in a large pullout that has a bathroom available for hikers. From there, you start your hike walking through wondrous forest! Beautiful and serene, it's a great walk to start with. About 3/4 of a mile in, you leave the forest and hike through old lava beds. The ground consists mainly of boulders larger than a soccer ball, with a path carved through it that meanders along the ridge.About a mile of that, and then back into the woods for the last half a mile or so. You'll reach the first branch in the trail at this point. Going right hikes down to the base of Proxy Falls, going to the left loops back to the trailhead and also to the Upper Proxy Falls area. Some things I read said to hike to the upper falls first in terms of coolness, but I think I disagreed. The upper falls are a bit magical in their own right, and I actually enjoyed them more then the main falls.Proxy Falls:You hike down to the base of the 226 foot fall, and it's truly awesome. The water cascades down in two streams, and some amazing pictures are taken. The water is perfectly clear and cool, and the children loved climbing on all of the downed trees and rocks in the area.Upper Proxy Falls:This is about 1/4 of a mile along the left hand split in the trail. The upper falls are only 120 feet or so, not as high as Proxy Falls themselves. However, whats cool is the pool at the bottom. There is a second stream that feeds into the pool, very small, and yet there is no obvious way that the water leaves the area. It goes underground, and gives the illusion that the water goes nowhere. You can climb up the falls a bit as well, which made for some great pictures. In all, this was a great family trip and a good way to wrap up the summer. I recommend this for anyone in the area, or who will be travelling through.

Serene tranquli as it could be. You can climb up the upper falls.. And get right up to the lower falls. The falls are so worth the walk through the woods.

A must see!! You can climb up the upper falls.. And get right up to the lower falls..Great place for a lunch....Nice hike.. TIP!! If you want to just see the falls.. Go through the left (exit) side.. And leave going back the same way...Much closer..If you want to hike a bit.. Finish the trail.. You will walk through a lava flow.. That was great to be in.The lower fall is a bit steep in some places. But well worth the hike.TIP!! It does cost 5 bucks for the day...you pay at the trailhead entrance. Bathrooms at TH.TIP!!! Early or late for best photos.. The sun is at the top of the lower falls at times.

This trail is advertised as 1.6 miles but we measured it and it was a bit over 2 miles. Its a beautiful loop although part of it is through a lava field and takes some effort. It goes through old growth forests and has spectacular views of the falls. The water from the falls goes underground at the base so it looks like the stream disappears, a very interesting effect. Worth the hike and route 242 is a really curvy, interesting drive.

The falls are so worth the walk through the woods. Both are magnificent falls. Along the trail there are mushrooms, flowers and all kinds of plants. One can easily get to the water at the first falls. What a wonderful place to go when the weather is hot!!! Try it!

A short hike to a most beautiful area. Hike in and out takes approximately an hour or so. Good photo ops. There will be a fee to park in the late spring/summer months but no fee after about September 30th.

Proxy Falls is a waterfall that has been photographed for magazines, calendars, postcards, websites and even tourism shots for Oregon. After hiking to the falls you will see why this is a popular waterfall to take shots of.Make sure that you have sturdy shoes on because the dirt path can be uneven and laden with branches and rocks in places. We were very glad that we had our walking sticks with us because it provided us with stability and support when needed to cross over some trees. We were there in teh middle of July and so the temperatures were in the high 80's but it was well worth it.If you're going to make the drive then make sure you pack a picnic lunch. There are no restaurants (or even gas stations) on this route. We packed fruit, cheeses, crackers and dessert and after the hike had an enjoyable picnic lunch. Don't forget to pack lots of water so you don't get dehydrated! :-)

Wonderful place for hiking! Mom and I are limited to medium style hikes, and our distance is no more than 1 1/2 miles. This hike took us through lava beds, and old growth forest. We enjoyed the views all over, and shared the trail for a bit with a garter snake. We ended up having to turn around without making it completely to the falls, but where we turned around the view of the falls was incredible! The trail was definitely medium up to the point where we turned around. The trail was well marked, and was a 1 1/2 mile loop, then you could branch off and go clear to the bottom of the falls. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Proxy falls is easy to get to. My only advice is to wear decent shoes as the trail goes through a lava area which means a lot of rocks. Overall the trail was fairly easy and well marked, although there were some parts that are uphill and kind of rocky. Spraining your ankle on one of those rocks could end your vacation pretty quickly. So again----wear decent shoes. The falls themselves are picturesque and definitely worth the hike.

A good trail by no means smooth and straight. Lots of rocks and tree roots in the trail. Need good walking type shoes and a walking stick is a good idea.Don't miss!!!

Good spot to let the children out and hike to see many wild plants, trees and flowers at a lower elevation before the pass opens. Great old trees!
