Lots of runs, beautiful scenery, great mountain hosts, great marketing crew! Thanks to Ann Cook and Julia from the Finger Lakes Ski Club!
There was a group of approx.130 people out here for the week, and the staff was very helpfull and tried to help us out in whatever we needed. Ann Cook did a great job with our group.
Went in search of snow this low snow year in the Northwest. Nearby snow park areas too sparse. Great to still be able to use the snow at the groomed area and not too icy to manage.
Went to Mt Bachelor for my first try and snow boarding and it was an excellent experience from beginning to end. I rented equipment and Laura helped fit me with what I needed including the proper board. I took lessons with Nate who was very patient and got me up and moving the right direction. Everyone else I met from the bottom to the top of the hill were all very helpful and friendly. You can tell they love what they do! And I got some nice runs in! What a great experience!
Mt Bachelor has done a great job with grooming and snow maintenance in a very challenging season (2014/2015). But they're seriously damaging their credibility with the current Northwest lift fiasco. In all my years of skiing, I've never seen or heard of this much impact from a mechanical failure. In my conversations with other season pass holders over the past week, the consensus is that Mt Bachelor is simply not motivated to fix it because they're trying save money on operations. The initial problem was identified early on Feb 21. Saying repairs could take until “sometime in April” sounds ridiculous. Without this lift, almost half of the terrain is unavailable, even with all of the other lifts operating. (And to many of us, it’s the best terrain.)The least they could do is run snow cat shuttles from the bottom of the Northwest lift up to the bottom of Outback on the days when Summit is operating and the backside is open. I’d also suggest giving current season pass holders an extra $100 discount for 2015/2016 as an apology.
Coming to this mountain, I had high expectations, and they were met. The mountain, when open all the way, is massive. There is a ton of terrain to ski/board. Awesome tree runs. Unfortunately, we did not have any powder at the time of visit (hard pack), but had a blast either way. The best thing about this resort is the people. It seems the people working there are happy at their jobs and always willing to help. The food was okay, but the service made up for it. I will definitely come back.
Well, 2015 has not turned out to be a great ski season in the West. We just spent two days on the mountain, and were surprised how good it was. A little icy in spots, but all the lifts were running and everything was covered except a few spot on bottom of the lowest runs. It will be grim in a few weeks if they don't get more snow soon, temps up to 70 this week!
Once again, Mt Bachelor had a power outage today and the chairs had to run on their extremely slow diesel engines. It was windy today but Powdr corp, who owns Mt B, has every opportunity all summer, every summer, to make their power source bomb proof. Just another of many examples of Powdr corp not maintaining the area for the over 10,000 passholders and many more visitors. Powdr corp just sold Park City for 182 million dollars. We would like to see some LIFT infrastructure please! This mountain is for beginners. The only lifts worth skiing if you are an intermediate or better are Pine Marten, Outback, Northwest, or the seldom run Summit. These are express lifts which are great but when they run slow, Mt B becomes an extremely boring ski area. Last year we had a powder day that cleared up. I waited with a hundred or so others at the bottom of the Summit Chair. The mountain looked fantastic. We waited over an hour for the chair to open. Finally they said it will not open and it did not open for days due to a major part failure. The owner of Powdr has been quoted saying that he is about the bottom line, no mention about the skiers experience and it shows. If I were going on a ski vacation, I would not pick Mt Bachelor. The chairs are unpredictable, the staffing is minimal, the parking lot is a mess after a storm. Please do not visit this ski area until the owners get their act together. It just perpetuates bad practices, they don't deserve your business. Visit some major resorts and find out that it is worth the few extra bucks a day to see what skiing can really be like when a company cares about your experience. Highly overrated! I don't know where the people that give this place a great review ski, but they must not be very experienced. If you consider yourself a skier or boarder, do yourself a favor and go to a real ski area, you will never come here again.
My review is colored by the fact that on a week's trip we really only had one good ski day, but the mountain can't control the weather. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help. The terrain is challenging especially when it gets crusty.
Husband, son and I visited Mt. Bachelor mid January and were delighted to find so much to do without putting on a downhill ski or a snowboard! The purpose of our trip was to explore Bend and Sunriver in the winter, as we've only visited (and love it) in the summer months. We didn't bring appropriate ski clothes -- had only our jeans, Keens and jackets. No problem! For our quick weekend, we discovered that the National Forest Service has ranger-guided snowshoe hikes every weekend at 10:00 and 1:00. (Meet at the snowshoe hut across from the ski lift ticket complex) Cost is FREE and they provide the snowshoes at no charge! Perfect! The hike was 1 1/2 hours and covered probably a mile or so -- with the end point having a super view of Broken Top and South Sister. We learned a lot about the habitat, the trees and got a great feel for what it's like to snowshoe. Loved it and then rented our own equipment to explore the area. Bachelor's Nordic Center rents gear (we got ours a bit cheaper in Sunriver, where we stayed) and they will give you a FREE pass to trek through the common corridor to the free trails across the road. Trails are all marked and, if you want to spend money, you can trek on their groomed XC/snowshoe trails as well. 15-year-old loved it, people had dogs with them (OK, it was freaky warm so everyone was out!), and even little children were loving the experience. Next time XC skiing lessons!Pros: Great Nordic Center, FREE parking at Mt. Bachelor, FREE pass to cross common area, amazingly helpful staffCons: We weren't there long enough.
When you hear that, believe it! The snows of Bachelor equal those of Park City, UT...and they're fantastic. The facilities are superb and we really enjoy that they're located in National Forest lands...so no condos and other junk mucking up the scenery and aura. Whether snowshoeing or skiing, snowboarding or tubing, this is a center point for sports and fun in the high desert plateau. Bend is such a dynamic, lively city it's just a wonderful place to vacation!
We enrolled our 5,5 year old in class. I told them he has been skiing at least 4x prior and skied Whistler 3 weeks prior and they still insisted he was level one.. My son was put in the same class with kids that have never even been on skis. I told them I was worried that he would not benefit from the class. It they insisted over and over, he was in the right class. It was nice I was able to watch the kids and he maybe got to go down the little tiny hill maybe 7 or 8? In a 2 hour time period. They took 2 30 minute water breaks and was told he was going to go down the tube, which he didn't because the other kids couldn't stop. He spent most of his time on the top of the magic carpet waiting for the other kids. I'll attach a picture that pretty much shows what his $115.00 lesson consisted of. Don't wasteyour money if you want a good lesson. We're going to try a private lesson tomorrow but it infuriates me to hand over another $140 for only 1 hour private lesson. I pray we have better results tomorrow but as I write this, I'm so frustrated especially after telling them I was uncomfortable putting him in the level 1 that we wasted $115 today for a 2 hour lesson that he basically sat there most of the time.,
Mt. Bachelor is a great mountain... but every time I have gone there is has been extremely windy. I ski all over the world, and I realize wind is a common condition near the summit of most mountains... but Bachelor takes the cake, so to speak, in the wind department.I will save my money and ski elsewhere from now on.
this was our first outing to Mt Bachelor and we hadn't expected such a great experience. first day we arrived in early afternoon and decided to take advantage of Forest Service snowshoeing outing since too late to start skiing, they offer this free outing, including snowshoes on weekends and school holidays. next day rented skis, poles, helmets, and set out for a day of skiing. everyone was very friendly and helpful. best of all the slopes were nicely groomed. chairs are fast and there's plenty of them. we skied green and blue runs, lots of options for advanced beginners and intermediate skiers. probable options for advanced too but didn't personally try these.
The runs were well groomed and had great snow coverage - much better than a lot of other areas in the West! The Ambassadors are great - very friendly and happy to tour the mountain with you. I highly recommend asking for an Ambassador tour if you are new to the area. I took a lesson and in two short hours got my skiing back on track! Corrected all my bad habits that took hold over the summer! The area also offers nordic skiing, snow shoeing and dog sled rides - we weren't able to do any of these, so will have to come back! Lift tickets are about 60% of what other major ski areas are charging, so Bachelor is a great deal! A friendly area with great value for your dollar and great skiing!
