I love this winery. The owner adds new structures and decorations every year. They have gardens, a new event center, a greenhouse and even a bird cage. The grounds are well manicured with a pond and decorative little waterfalls. However, this visit the staff were overwhelmed. We came with a big family group. Service was excruciatingly slow, adults were fed before the children's pizza arrived. Pizza took over an hour and I reminded them. But the kids had fun running around outside. If ordering Margarita pizza know it has no tomato sauce. The salads are great! The calzones were adequate, glad to have an option for lunch.
My husband and I really enjoyed the wines at this winery. It was a very busy Saturday for them. Combined with a server with less than 1 week on the job, we were not able to get more info on the various wines. It was not the relaxing experience we were seeking. We will definitely try again though.
It was a cool, crisp, fall day and perfect for walking around the grounds. Ponds, gardens and chairs everywhere. I can imagine it gets crowded in the summer, but there's a ton of room here. They had the stone pizza oven fired up. I found the wine tasting list a little boring. I thought most of the wines we tasted were too similar. I really would have liked to taste their Chardonnay, but the server would not open a bottle. They do serve food and there was a big fireplace to sit by. A beautiful, restful winery, but not sure about the wines. Will try again.
We were here on a Wednesday evening and it was very hot so we sat inside. We did the tasting at a large table where the server would bring different wines as your preference to taste. She turned out to be a ranger at the Oregon Caves and was a lot of fun. I think the port helped, it was very tasty! I would go back if in the area. She told us they have live music some nights which would be fun too.
My husband's company usually has their company party somewhere else, but this year, they had it at the vineyard. It was absolutely wonderful and had such a 'homey' feel to it. The staff was great and the food was delicious! I hope they have it there every year!
Schmidt Family Vineyards is truly a family owned and operated winery. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with numerous areas to walk or sit. There are many areas where couples, small or large groups can sit and taste their award winning wines. The grounds are fairly large with pond, garden and vineyard areas. These provide a wonderful environment to walk and enjoy the scenery. On those days when the weather is not so good there is ample covered outdoor seating and fire pits. The decor of the interior spaces are warm craftsman style timber construction. They have a chef on staff ready to prepare some small dishes that provide excellent pairings with their wines. The winery has a really great event room that is excellent for private parties and weddings. We were married here and I cannot say enough about how accommodating the entire staff was. They were very flexible and went out of their way to make the event extra special. They allow outside catering and music. After shopping around the valley I found the cost to be very reasonable. We had a fairly intimate wedding but the winery would also be a great place for a large wedding or event as well. Of course the best part about Schmidt is the wine. Excellent wine. Usually there are six wines available for tasting each day. I recommend the 2009 Tempranillo.
First impressions of this winery is not inviting. Until you park and walk up the landscaped walk way that it opens up to a beautiful winery. The landscaping is incredible and if you ever wanted to have a private out door party, this would be the place. We sat outside in the sun and sipped on wine and snacked on their chicken salad. Which was very good by the way with their chardonnay!
Schmidt Family Vineyards did an excellent job of making us feel welcome on our visit. We were able to sit outside in their beautiful gardens while enjoying our wine flights. The staff was very helpful, gracious, and pleasant. Tours were also available, but we chose to enjoy the garden and patio instead.
Great welcome and chat as we tested and tasted wines. We four enjoyed all the wines so much that one couple joined. Attention to detail both in the building and the wines.
This is, indeed, a family winery. It is evident that everyone pours their passion into this place. Beautiful tasting room, lovely grounds and knowledgeable people.
Schmidt Family Vineyards is hard to beat when it comes to tasting rooms. It is simply beautiful. The wines, however, are just "ok". Nevertheless, you will enjoy sitting on the covered patio with a cheese platter and a bottle of wine.
Tried to do the 'Gold Hill' segment of the southern Oregon wine tour and became very frustrated that the Schmidt Family Vineyard sign was not evident at all northbound and then, after we visited another winery and were returning southbound, my passenger happened to see their sign. We had give up finding it. Thus, it is difficult to locate if one is unfamiliar with the area. The vineyard and area for wine tasting were beautiful but, we found the wine 'less than.'
Great white wine! Fun place to visit while on our way to Grants Pass and Rogue River. People at the winery were very friendly and recommended things to see and do in the area.
We spent a wonderful 3 day weekend visiting wineries in Southern Oregon with friends. We especially enjoyed our visit to Schmidt Family Vineyards. The facilities and grounds are fabulous. The staff was pleasant and knowledgable and the wine yummy. We look forward to returning in warmer weather when we can enjoy the grounds.
we think having to pay for tasting is ridiculous and then on top of it we didn't really like the wine. Schmidt does have a wonderful garden, so if you go there plan to stay for a while and enjoy the garden.
