The Hillsboro Tuesday Marketplace is a community event! If you are a local, it is almost guaranteed that you will run into people that you know. This event brings out the local farmers who bring the bounty of the harvest. Right now, it is August and that means fresh corn on the cob. YUM! The music is good too. There are local artists, crafters, and sometimes even fresh seafood offerings. Be sure and grab dinner there from locally made artisan sausages to crazy foreign foods; the choices are endless.

Tjhe people, the fresh fruits and vegetables are the best attraction to this market, but don't stop there, for there are other merchants here too, from the hotdog vendors to the exotic. Hillsboro is known for it's farming community and it certainly shows when you attend this function! Friendly and courteous atmosphere everywhere! C'mon down and have a fruit cocktail, you won't regret getting it!

Four city blocks were blocked off on Main Street in front of the Hillsboro town hall and park, and were alive with happy children, parents, teens, and couples. All were enjoying an afternoon/evening event that attracts people from all over the region. Games and activities for children, including a water fountain, kept little ones engaged. Each end of the street featured a band. Food carts too numerous to count had lines of people waiting to try various ethnic delicacies. The beer garden at the far end attracted couples, some of whom were dancing in the street. Fresh produce was displayed in abundance. Homemade bread, candies, pies, jams, and jellies looked tempting, and samples were free. This is a true community fun-fest.

Several blocks of Main Street are shut down every Tuesday night, May-October. There is one street just for classic cars & meets. Then once section for hot food booths. Another sections for local produce, crafts, baked good etc. The Main St businesses stay open. The fountains at the Civic Center are running and the kids enjoy playing in that. Walters Cultural Center and other art galleries are open and alot of times there is wine tasting. Its the kind of event that has something for everyone in the family and you can let your kids explore on their own safely. Our favorite part is getting lots of different food to share like brisket, schnitzels, bento, tacos, even stuffed tater tots. Then we spread out our blanket under the giant sequoia trees at the courthouse lawn. There is also plenty of seating around the Civic Center plaza. We love the live music, kids dancing, and people watching. We always see friends and neighbors and also meet new people (and their dogs too!) Once each summer is a dog parade and costume contest. Other entertainment is a magician, balloon guy, face painting etc. Some freebie and educational booths too. You can ride the MAX in or there is plenty of parking at the city's structure at 1st & Washington. It never gets old!
