lucky strike mine

The Lucky Strike Mine website has pathetically inadequate directions for travel. The website map is a small sketch on which the given forest road numbers do not show up on a USGS topographic map, nor on a Forest Service Motorized Vehicle map, nor on a Google map, nor on a Bing map. Sketch also shows a Myky Creek Road as a way in, guess what, you got it, that road shows up nowhere on all the previously mentioned maps. Try to find this place at your own peril. The word peril really needs emphasis! ! Prepare for lost for days. Can't even gather further directions info from the Mine's email contact. You're guessing right again -- the email is unreachable and non-existant.

My 7 year old Son and I dug thunder eggs here. We had a great time, and there is a lot of thunder eggs to dig on the hillside. It takes a while to drive to the location, but it was worth it.

Have seen the sigh for this mine for the last 20 years and decided what the heck. There was a sign posted that they were closed so we that day so we came the next day and no sigh so off we went.Very beautiful country and well worth the drive. Would recommend a truck but cars do come up. We get there and meet this old timer named Caps who it turns out new my step dad. We bought a couple of thunder eggs while we were there and was shown the beauty of the gems. Cap and his wife will help you to hunt or show you where to go.
